It's worth remembering that one of the bigger impacts the festival has on locals is the traffic (and in some recent years it's meant the roads nearby being clogged for 12+ hours), so trying to lessen that impact via price rises for car parking does not mean just greed.

And this local supports anything that will reduce the number of cars crawling towards Pilton. I watch the traffic every time and most cars contain two people and a lot of bags and crates. How about a sliding scale of car park charges with reductions for cars filled to capacity with people rather than beer?

Surely thats what happens now

£25 / 1 person in car = £25 pp

£25 / 2 people in car = £12.50 pp

It already makes sense to car share, not only for the car park charges, but for fuel costs. People are apparently prepared to pay for convenience

Our number is now up to 14 so I am looking into hiring a minibus for the week. Current prices seem to be around £400 (ish) for the week. Would also save £75 just on parking tickets, if minibus is same rate as cars. Also cheaper on fuel obviously, and it would be a giggle.

Will need to think up an amusing 'short straw' competition for eligeable drivers while we are there for who drives out on Monday morning.

I think more people would come by coach/train if there was more flexible beer buying options at the gate, say a stall selling slabs for a "supermarket" price. Well aware that there's lots of bars inside, but at £4.50 a pint it's not an option that many people can use all weekend.

Haha!! And I thought I'd misunderstood you in my bleary eyed morning state! Glasto are clearly concerned about the large numbers of people coming by car, so whilst they offered that (waste of time) voucher scheme last year, ultimately people want something that will make a real impact on their pocket. I like the refund for car sharing too, but wonder if that would encourage rogue parking away from the site as people abandon cars to hop in for the final mile. I dunno it's a tough one!

I would gladly car share to save a few bob, but work won't let me have the time off so it's leave at 4 on Thursday get whatever space is left and leave midnight Sunday to get to work Monday morning! £25 is a lot but no alternative really! Just gotta suck it up! No coaches from Bournemouth and train times not workable :/

Think yourself lucky. If you took a small van to T in the Park and paid on the gate for a car park ticket they charged you £50.

I don't have a problem paying £5 a day for parking. Must add up to quite a pretty penny though with all the car drivers paying £25 each.
