2013 Headliners

So I've decided that I'm going to lose my download virginity next year after coming very close to it in 2009 and this year too, and i just thought it'd be alright to share ideas on who we think could be the three acts at the top of the bill at Download 2013. A 2013 thread has been on the R&L forum for a little so why not start one here too :) Apologies if there is one already, but i haven't seen it yet :P

IMO i think we need 3 completely new headliners. since 05(inc this year) ive seen Sabbath(05/12), SOAD(05/11), Metallica(06/12), Linkin Park(07/11), Def Leppard(09/11) thats 5 bands in 7 years thats headlined Download twice since ive been going!!

I think Download will be trying for Van Halen and Iron Maiden for sure, whether they get them or not is anyones guess, these big established US acts sell tickets.

Van Halen will be a draw because they haven't played here for so long, Iron Maiden it will have been 6 years since they played Download much like Metallica this year, so thats a fair amount of time.

Slipknot will definatly be a huge draw.

I can't see Avenged or Bullet getting the push up yet, both only subbed recently, there's no demand for them as headliner.

I think Rammstein are due an appearance eventually. Heard Soni pretty much stole them from DL the year they did Soni - chances are DL try get them every year anyway and it now just a matter of time.

Slipknot and Blink are good shouts - Slipknot could have the fifth album out by DL 2013 and Blink ain't done any festivals on the back of their newest one yet.

I'm sure all the other usual suspects will be throw around too... Foo's, Muse, Green Day, Van Halen, Kiss, Pearl Jam, Maiden etc. Can't see BFMV or A7X getting asked to headline either if Soni is gone too - would of though they'd only be a last resort for one fest or the other.

Tool, foos, rammstein would be awesome.

Can totally see bfmv/a7x getting a chance mind. How abOut a billing Of those 2 as "joint headliners" on the Friday night? Would that pack more of a punch than either on their own? And have someone like stone sour as "special guest" 3rd down?

That'd be a good Friday and would be really popular I reckon. Although i had a thought the other day, if Stone Sour's next album is well recieved surely they must be considered for headlining in the next few years?

2013 - Blink, Rammstein/Van Halen, Maiden

2014 - Pendulum, A7X, Slipknot

Can see Bullet getting the push but not next year and not the same year as A7X.

Blink as said haven't done a Uk fest to promote their latest album and it won't be R&L.

Maiden - If they are/were doing Soni next year, chances are they won't now.

Pendulum - I think will play R&L in 2013 subbing to a main stage header, then follow The Prodigy to headline point the next year at Download, obviously Download being their favourite festival too.

A7X - I can see but a bit dubious about two bands getting the push but that said, it'd be okay with a strong undercard.

Slipknot - Corey recording and playing with Stone Sour next year, then recording with Slipknot after for a 2014 headline slot. Say it were to be their last show - closing his fav fest (Corey Taylor) with Slipknot would be huge for him.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
