How I tell how many punk bands are at Galsto is to count the mohawks on the bands playing when I'm watching them on BBC. Last year I got 0.

yeah, but the BBC get a nosebleed if they film anything away from the two main stages. ;)

For many people who go to Glasto, their experiences barely include those two stages. The better music is - on average - always away from the trendy acts.

Thing about Glasto is, there's more to it than just the bands. It's hard to explain but you just have to go and see for yourself to fully understand. There were only four acts I really wanted to see all weekend (Blur, Springsteen, The Specials and Spinal Tap) but it was the best weekend of my life.

That's my point, when people say "I go to x because I don't think the music at Glastonbury" they seem to get a response like "then you don't like music" or "Glasto has everything, you aren't looking hard enough". The truth is that Glasto doesn't have everything (or at least everything in equal abundance) and that for a minority of people other festivals are more suitable, so when people say that they should be believed rather it being suggested that the only reason they think that way is because they're mentally defective.

care to show me any fest that has everything or even some things in equal abundance? Reading which is meant to cover modern punk doesn't even manage what you're suggesting of Glasto.

My point is that Glasto does have (just about) everything. Just because it's not what you know or want or not in the right quantities doesn't make it not there. ;)

Of course other fests are more suitable for some. I've never said different to that, I've merely corrected a factual error.

Haha nothing exciting I'm afraid, just gives me all week to spend with daughter doing.nursery runs etc etc. Earn more doing weekends than I would do all week.

It just cuts down in festivals that I don't plan but go if good weather/ spare dosh etc.

What's that got to do with anything? I'm not suggesting Glasto should be doing these things, just that people shouldn't be claiming that it does something that it doesn't.

It might not make it not there but it still makes it sub-standard when compared to others, if that's your thing. Essentially you're saying that Glasto covers all the bases because at some point somewhere, no matter how shit they are, there's a band that fits into a slot and that every slot is covered by at least one band, which whi;e making it technically correct doesn't mean the festival claim cliam to 'do' every kind of music. It's a pretty cheap boast by those who try to peddle it. The assertion that Glasto does have everything is based on your view of what level of coverage means that can claim to be 'doing' or to 'have' someting. I don't think it adequately covers some of the genres that other festivals do, but then again I don't expect it to.

You can say all you like that it does and the only reason I don't think the same way is because I don't experiment or aren't aware of what's going on there, but for me it doesn't and therefore for me it doesn't scratch that itch. My interpretation of a decent level or quality of punk/hardcore/whatever is obviously different. For you or anyone else what they have may cover the punk or metal or hardcore spectrum and that's great, but me me and others that it isn't enough or isn't good enough so we go elsewhere.
