It's commonly speculated without any reason other than V is very commercial fest, Libertines, Oasis, Eminem etc have all stated publicly they were paid a shit load to play R&L and considering R&L books at as exclusives they must bump up their fees a bit. I think more often that not FR don't want to get into a bidding war so they walk away from acts but that isn't the same as R&L not spending money on acts.

think bestival ruled them out. someone mentioned was in creamfields or global gathering for them before now, they are options.

think about, if benn has done what people don't expect and on the all have played in some capacity, that includes Sabbath, Jack White and Arctics. Jack has played with others bands.

It all depends on how much they want the band... It sounds like Melvin didnt even go for Stone Roses for next year so he couldn't have wanted them that much last year... wouldnt be surprised if every fest in the UK went for KOL in 09 but Reading got them... there are instances for Reading getting bands and there are instances for V getting bands... this doesnt show that V can always out trump Reading on money offers.

I suppose so, but on the whole The Cure's set wasn't admired this year. Not slating the band I love them, but because a lot of the crowd was much more of a younger audience, I just don't think they understood it or heard many of the songs before, I fear the same would occur with Depeche Mode...
