The treatment by the media to Woy has been so bad, that I am probably the closest I have ever been to wanting an England manager to do well! Like him or not he is a decent guy who deserves respect, instead of a disgraceful vendetta by London based journalists who in general know nothing about football.

Glancing at the papers today, one newspaper referred to him as a cut price manager. This is someone who has got a country without much reputation into a world cup, got an average international team to a ranking of 3 in the world and got 2 teams into european finals. They also cried about the fact that Arry wasnt even interviewed, why should he be? Its up to the FA to pick the criteria and not the fans or the media. The last time the fans and media picked the manager they picked keegan and looked how that turned out. I wasnt happy about Coleman wanting the Wales job but once appointed you have to get behind the man. My observations are however that the England fans are not as anti woy as the media and this nasty campaign may actually gain him some sympathy.

Bit difficult when you dont play anyone up front!

it's a funny one that last night it was the normally attack minded fergie who reverted to defensive, while the normally defensive minded Mancini went for attack.

Still, it's good of fergie to pass City the trophy. :P

He had a point last night. City players too waving imaginary yellow cards.

and that was different to the Utd's players doing their aeroplane impressions with arms outstretched every time a city player took the ball from them, how exactly?

And then there was Rooney, fouling himself and getting Kompany booked - which might have had a huge bearing on the match too. Luckily it didn't.

In the end, the only tactic fergie had left up his sleeve was to get to Young to dive for a penalty. Sadly it didn't work out cos Young couldn't get into City's box. Oh well.

This. The media are constantly referring to Redknapp as 'The People's choice', but I haven't spoken to anyone who thinks Woy is an awful appointment (apart from WBA fans who don't want him leaving), or Redknapp would have been brilliant.

in the long term woy is defo better than 'arry.

But I'm actually disappointed that 'arry isn't manager in the short term, cos I reckon that he'd have got better out of the team in the euros than any manager has managed with any england squad since el tel.

The MASSIVE problem with that idea tho is that if that happened they'd be no getting rid of 'arry afterwards.

Unbelievable!! You have slagged him of how crap he is all season.

I've slagged him, yup - but what I've said there still makes sense, to me if not to you. :)

Whatever 'arry's faults, there's some parts of what he does that are undoubtedly good - and it's those parts which I'm saying would be a benefit to England in the short-term.

All I'm doing is recognising that he has a side that would be beneficial for England, and what has led me to have those thoughts is the simple fact that just about everyone expected him to be named as manager. It's hardly an outrage or 'unbelievable'. ;)

I don't think you can really count a team out of the euros. Look at the world cup and the standard of the last 4 is generally very strong, however the euros has had mediocre winners and load of mediocre semi finalists.

As for club v international, I don't see why it has to be either/or. To me Wales beating Italy was comparible to my highs supporting wrexham and seeing us lose the play off to Russia was up there with the lows. I have probably seen wrexham live 500+ times so I don't think its right to say those who feel stronger for their club, feel less for their country.

For me its probably that I dislike a lot of "England supporters" really. I know its a minority but by that I mean the ones who en masse chant racist songs and ones about WW2. Its a bit, well, pathetic at times.

Considering there is 2 big teams involved, i can't remember an fa cup final with so little hype a few days before. The positioning of the game before the season has finished, the Manchester derby and England manager talk has really taken attention elsewhere. Amazingly the game could be Liverpool highest profile game left and chelseas lowest.

Didn't the FA cup always used to be the weekend after the top division had finished? Think its a shame they've moved it. (although I think its more to do with the league being drawn out rather than the FA cup date being moved). It now just gets lost amongst the title race. I liked having it as the pinacle to the football season. And its a 17:15 kick off as well?? That's a new one isn't it.

As for Woy. As an England fan I think its not a bad choice. Out of the English managers available he's the best qualified. So sad that the media are already out to get him. At the press conference he was quizzed about his time in the 70s in South Africa during aparthide. Obviously this is a tricky subject, but pulling out that question at the guys first press conference is the media definitely showing their cards on his appointment. Poor fella is in for a very bumpy ride. Looks like the knives are out before he's even started.

    • Ok, ok, I have done it! Not because of limitless upvoats but to support the Efestivals site.
    • She was/is 100% in the mix, but I don't know specific timings and how it relates to that interview. They've clearly gone after her, again.   It could be read in a number of ways - she was in negotiations at that point, she was talking about BST (and he's interpreted it, as we have, as Glastonbury). Who knows
    • So sad to see the news that John Douglas of the Trashcan Sinatras has died. They only released their latest album last week and it is wonderful.  So underrated and a member of such a great long running band that have meant so much to me over the last 40 years. https://trashcansinatras.com/blogs/news/john-douglas-1963-2026
    • listening to jamie east's podcast earlier he said that he'd heard fender is confirmed, and that as of 2 weeks ago Madonna hadn't been approached.
    • which would make that Graham Norton interview nonsense .... although obviously things change
