I'd say you're being a little unfair to Carra, if not also to Gerrard.

Carra puts his idea of Gerrard being one of the best within the context of him not having played in a great team with great players for any of his career - which is true, and means that he doesn't have the medals to match the normal tally of a player of his calibre.

Off the top of my head (soz if this is wrong TGT) I don't think that Bobby Moore has a league winner's medal (and perhaps no other domestic medals either), but he's got to rate as one of the best players this country has produced (even if as a defender he's not the sort of glamour player which come instantly to anyone's lips).

He's of course looked on fondly by the English in almost all directions as the man who lifted the world cup so people give him the credit of being one of the best despite the lack of domestic medals, while Gerrard doesn't get such wide admiration because his own glory is related to 'just' his club so fan tribalism kicks in. And yet, because of the impact he had in that CL final he's certainly a player of huge impact (even if you don't think he won it by himself ass some do) - because his impact for Liverpool has been that huge very often over the years.

Perhaps Gerrard isn't as good as Carra says, but he's got a more than decent reasoning behind him reaching that conclusion, I'd say.

Of course Carragher was being biased but I don't think medal count is what judges a player anyway. Phil Neal isn't arguably the greatest player in England ever for example. They were good or they weren't and Gerrard has been fantastic.

For me even though drogba isnt the same player he was a couple of years ago, I would rank him at the best big game players of recent premiership years. Rooney can sometimes be a bit hit and miss for me in the big games. Look at the 3 championship leagues final and despite a goal his performances havent been up to the level of what i would expect from one of the world top players. However look at the premiership and he seems to find a goal when man utd need a goal in a game when they are looking short of ideas he often seems to find one, man u certainly would be nowhere near city without him this season.
