Quite possibly, wouldn't have been hard though and you'd have thought someone would have perhaps snatched him up at that point if they thought he was good enough.

I think he, like others of the foreign players they'd signed that season, took time to settle in.

I can't say I take much notice of Newc or their players, but he's the player that stands by far the strongest in my memories of Newc the season they went down, even if he might have taken time to settle in. I've no idea at all about how he might have been in the Champs for that season, but bearing in mind how much Newc walked it by they were definitely a stronger team than is normally the case with the team that wins the Champs - and that was much the same team as had had them relegated.

Indeed, they seem to have strengthened the areas that really didn't need strengthening. Well, not before sorting out there woeful defence anyway.

I've not seen him in action yet, but the little I've read from pre-season matches is suggesting he's likely to be a star player for Liverpool, someone more than capable at the top level.

But we'll have to see.

Arsenal aside, I just don't think Liverpool are strong enough on the left.

are you perhaps forgetting a little guy with a deadly left foot?

Or perhaps even a middling Scot with a very decent one?

They have options, that stand as good a chance of coming together as any other buys by any other manager.

This is juxtaposed with Wenger down the road saying "I expect nobody to leave." Were poor aul Rafa to have come out with something as inane as this mate you would have been on here with multiple .

I havent seen any belittling, liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world and as a result all their transfers are open to scrutiny. I dont think anyone has criticised him as a player

Johnson has improved loads since Clarke. Agger is fantastic when fit. Aurelio is good but a complete crock and a stupid re-signing buy old Roy.

Flannagan just got a long-term contract so he's still very much in the mind, I just don't think it's wise lobbing in an 18 year old full-back for the whole/most season. Give him a couple of years to develop with less pressure is probably the idea.

Last year could be the start of 4 or 5 more of top quality or it may end up being his high point, time will tell.

Paul konchesky was a run of the mill signing who had been one of the most consistent in his position in his league and flopped. I hope enrique ends up being a success as improved competition from below the top 4 will only make the top 4 raise their game which is good for the league.

I never said that anything about any team being closed to scrutiny. The size, profile and position of Liverpool of course warrants debate. I just laugh at certain reactions to LFC's transfer dealings thats all. Rarely any measure of balance in the debate in comparison to the free pass a lot of other clubs (Spurs and Arsenal to name but two) seem to get.

Milito on his way out of Inter now too. Going to Rubin Kazan or Galatasaray.

Christ, Inter really are desperate to get rid of some of these high earning players. Milito still has a good season or two left in him. He was great under Mourinho.
