Random question for older festival goers

When did they start announcing the initial line-up through means of the yellow poster on the official website? And how was the line-up announced before this?

I remember they did it in 2006, I didn't even get my 2005 day ticket til a while after the first announcement when a lot of the line-up had been announced, so I didn't know. Any ideas?

If I remember right back in the 1990s (when I first started going) the lineup was annouced in the music papers with news stories and a full-page advert which often resembled the posters as now.

I found my 1994 poster a while back and it looked just like the current ones and it was yellow too

yeah,before i had the internet i used to look for the poster in kerrang to see if anyone had been added to the line up.

lot easier now obviously,tho the one upside of not having the internet was i didnt see all the negative stuff on the forums.i used to come back from festivals with my memories,now i come back to read that the band i watched in the front row who blew me away were poor and didnt have a big crowd.i used to be buzzing coming back and presume everyone was the same but now i check on the forums to find out what a crap time everyone had.

oh well,i cant look after everyone,as long as i have a good time,bollox to 'em,ha ha.

Yeah it was definitely NME/Melody Maker/Kerrang that you could see the first posters, to be honest I can't remember if they announced them on the radio at the same time as tickets go on sale like they do now (or whether the radio announcement was the first one) but I definitely remmeber it being talked about on the radio (probably by Steve Lamacq).

HMV always used to have a big poster up as well (don't know if they still do), so we just used to go down there, have a look at the line-up, then buy our tickets over the counter. I think i would quite welcome a return to the days when there wasn't just a mad rush as soon as the tickets go on sale, maybe this year can be the start of it.

It was the late 80's when the Mean Fiddler { may have been called The Mean Fiddler Music Group } got involved - I only started attending in 1989 so never paid much attention to adverts for Reading before that date but you can see for yourself the format was diffrent than what it is now.
