Back Packs

Hi,

I noticed this year a lot more people had back packs on whilst watching people on stage. I was clobbered a few times when people turned around and obviously forgot they were wearing them. I met up with an Aussie guy who in the crowded stage areas wore his on the front and did not seem to take up to much room. What do they have in them, I can get everything I need for the day in my pockets. :D

I was nearly knocked over by someone wearing a backpack who was pushing past. They can't be very comfortable to wear all day though, I'd much rather just take a smallish canvas bag/Converse bag or something for the day time.

I remember years ago ( in a galaxy far far away or so it seems because I cant remember where it was) a couple stood near the front with two large hiking packs oblivious to what was happening behind. Some wag had decided to hang as much rubbish as he could from the various nets and ties....everytime he manged a new accessory the crowd cheered and the victims turned to see what was happening. This went on for about 20 mins until the pair decided to move on....or at least tried to move on as they were now tied together with an old broken chair attached to a trailing line. Watching some irate germans hurling abuse at a 10,000 plus crowd pissing themselves was better than the support act......if only video phones had been invented.

I kept my slr in my bag, I always wore it on the front when in busy crowds as it meant I did not hit anyone when turning round but also it felt less likely for anything getting nicked. Im very cautious at gigs now as I was pickpocketed a few years back and lost my wallet with £250 in. (this was not nicked at glasto :-))

In the "Stuff you've bought" thread someone posted a link to a bum bag. Snugpak Response Now it was a close contest as to whether the shame of wearing a bum bag outweighed the convenience, but I did wear it every day. It helped that my raincoat covered it every day but Sunday.

But it did work really well. Space for hand sanitiser, wet wipes, camera, torch, ciggies, and a couple of tins of beer. I did take a small backpack for my jacket and a few more beers, but by the time I was in the crowd for acts those beers were gone so it was less of a problem.

I did also use the backpack to store empty tins until I was close to a rubbish bin, also putting my cig butts in empty tins. I know lots of others were dropping butts and tins, but if we all do our part...

This year at Anna Calvi in the JP there was a girl sat on a chair not 5 rows from the from with rucksack et al, obviously just got there, she was with a few of her mates. Surely she should have gone to their tent first, i was amazed that she must have met them in the JP tent! She looked thoroughly pissed off though. Everyone around was just looking on with questioning look on their faces.
