I don't think it's particularly relevant as to whether or not AF are different to anyone else - it's more whether or not our music media still care about them or not at that point in time which will define whether or not they will be headliners or otherwise. I'm sure their hardcore support will love them, but it's the interest of the casual fan that has to be piqued in order for a new band to be considered headliners, I'd say.

This of course has very little to do with musical ability, btw. It's simply whether they are still on the cover of Q, or NME come booking time next year.

I don't see the problem with them headlining. It's only in the last couple of years that the expectation seems to be for a global megaband to headline every night. Bands have to step up to headlining at some point and since KOL and Jay-Z in 2008 it's something Glastonbury has not bothered with while other festivals have given acts a chance. It doesn't always work out (e.g. Reading 2007-Razorlight) but that doesn't mean it's not worth trying.

Some Arcade Fire fans have become annoyingly whiney and obsessive, just like Radiohead fans. Doesn't really change the fact they're two excellent bands though.

AF are just seeing the start of the people who bragged about liking Funeral gradually distancing themselves because they've become too popular. Yawn.

    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
    • Blink-182 / Avril Lavigne / Good Charlotte / Neck Deep    Lamb of God / Malevolence      System Of A Down / Five Finger Death Punch / Skindred / Godsmack   Motionless In White / Poppy      Deftones / Gojira / Knocked Loose / President    Sabaton / Amon Amarth
    • This Isaac wood news has dropped right out of left field. Great to hear he feels up to doing live stuff again    what will he play? Solo stuff , old BCNR stuff?    It’s only in November , it’s a bold booking to for someone who has previously had some struggles to come back and play a load of new stuff to crowds that big
    • Wow, Blink-182 back so soon. They’re the band they’ve never booked then. Great booking if they’ve got them.    Deftones, Papa Roach, Knocked Loose   Lamb of God   Blink-182, Avril Lavigne, Good Charlotte   Megadeth   Slipknot, Gojira, Motionless In White   All Time Low
