Things You Loved

I've just returned from the festival, still grinning from ear to ear only to find a board of moaning about "the old days" and about how shit the festival was. Thought it might be nice to counteract this with a nice thread of good memories from this years festival.

It was my first time at Glastonbury having been to a few other festivals over the last few years and I absolutely loved it. Nowhere else has ever even come close to what Glastonbury offered. From meeting a couple of other first timers in the queue whom we camped with and ended up spending most of the weekend with to the first gorgeous view from the top of flag hill. The whole place was absolutely magical, the greenfields and in particular the permaculture area were bloody brilliant, I spent a couple of hours on Thursday sipping elderflower champagne and making my own stone baked pizza. I loved the fact that I felt completely comfortable walking around even when I spent a few hours exploring on Saturday night alone. For me the atmosphere was brilliant, one evening I got into a very sticky situation losing one of my walking boots in a massive sticky mud crowd and I immediately had a stranger grabbing my boot for me and helping me to hop into enough space to put it back on. Nowhere else can I be sat eating toast and sipping a nice cocktail watching a man play a piano and ride a bike at the same time one minute before suddenly seeing one of the most talented pop acts in recent history putting on a fantastic show followed by an evening of bourbon and blues. It was just brilliant, I was genuinely blown away from the moment I walked in to the moment I left. The even better bit is that I saw a lot but I know I still haven't even scratched the surface. I could quite happily have spent the rest of this week wondering around the site drinking cider and speaking to the wonderful people.

So what else did everyone enjoy?

The large twister game at the sensation stage:everyone getting involved, being together, it's what Glastonbury's about isn't it?

The random acts on the square boards around the site:I get so easily sidetracked by them and a morning stroll to breakfast quickly turns into a lunch hunt.

The field of avalon village fete:Everyone there was so lovely, again it's about getting involved. You get out what you put in and if challenging and supporting strangers in tug of war isn't your thing, why not play splat the rat?

The lovely people:Yes there are so complete twats, but you get that everywhere. I find that people are far more likely to join in and talk to you at Glastonbury as it's more acceptable. Just talk to people, the majority are really nice and up completely up for it.

Workshops:Salsa dancing with strangers in wellies? Where else?

Everything I've mentioned is about getting involved, being up for the lovely little surprises of Glastonbury. You definately get out what you put in at Glastonbury.

Also my first time at Glastonbury. Having done other festivals beforehand, the big G blew them all out of the water. Had an absolutely magical experience and met some truly wonderful people.

Favourite thing for me personally is Strummerville, the place had a fantastic feeling with acoustic bands playing away, chatting with strangers sharing a magical cigarette.

Stone Circle early morning was also fantastic filled with many weird and wonderful characters. One highlight was a naked guy wandering around in a top hat mumbling away to random people.

Will certainly be back to Glastonbury again.

Thank you for this thread, just flicked through others & some people are so negative!

1. Coldplay

2. The random brass band in the stone circle on Thursday night - whoever those guys were, they made my festival, what a laugh!

3. The people.

i particularly enjoyed Professor Brian Cox very politely, diligently and ever so slightly condescendingly explaining to Billy Bragg why what he had just uttered was complete nonsense. fair enough the conversation was on science, not socialism, but i could have listened to that all day.

the fortune telling machine exhibition in the common! it was amazingly odd & unexpected, although i was terrified at the voodoo man that painted on my hand. Also the lost picture show bar. the common was a really lovely little area. really enjoyed it.

Also loved sunday service stand in the greenfields, had an awesome MC on at around 2PM Sunday.

Good thread -

Some things I liked were

Darwin Deez - really good tunes and funny with it

The Glade aka G Stage - I love this place and the sounds and vibe is immense, Camo and Krooked, Pretty Lights and Plump Djs rocked it.

Bullring - there was some funny stuff going on in here and the tomato fight was spectacular

Bimble Inn - Top MCs in there on Sunday night which was a cool end to the festivities

Artwork in Shangri La - Went in the day and got some good pictures of all the cool signs etc

Nothing bad to say really its all good!

to the OP - Thanks for this thread.

Glad you enjoyed it, that the mud did not put you off, and that you'll be going back.

Ignore the naysayers - they're just tired and grumpy from lugging their kit back to the car. They'll go again.

Other than the obvious (radiohead, pulp, qotsa, chems, shadow) I really enjoyed The Beat Hotel, especially Erol Alkan on Friday night, an incredible set, also Skream doing a disco set last night was a great way to finish the weekend. Plus the burgers they were serving were some of the best I've ever had.

The King Blues were far and away my favourite performance, so much energy from the band and the audience!

Particularly loved the rastamouse influences in SL this year, and everything in the common was awesome. System 7 were good on sunday morning too.

The craziness of Campo Pequeno (Esp my first go at attacking a piñata!)

Sunrise Monday morning, up on flagtopia, the warmest night ever and the most beautiful clear skies with lanterns floating past.. soaked up as much of it as I could to last me til 2013

Things I loved; Everything (once again), apart from sunburn! I didn't even get sunburnt last year but the sunday destroyed my shoulders and chest, put a bit of a downer on my Sunday evening and night tbh. Everything else though=QUALITY!!!!

Wandering round the bars in Arcadia and Shangri La on Friday...ending up listening to a random DJ set inside an old jet fuselage. Ceiling too low for my 6ft4 mate but they had a proper floor which was the first solid ground in nearly 3 days- was a bizarrely fabulous moment. Great tunes too.

Oh...and Pulp. Especially when Jarvis was handing out Cadbury's mis-shapes to the audience!

Method Man from Wu Tang calling the festival "Glasty" - I'm honestly thinking about spending the next two years persuading people on here to use that instead of Glasto...

Kool and the Gang

The various walking theatre acts around the Circus and Caberet fields - particularly Sw*nk Guides and the Segway Shooping Cart Grannies who hilariously did a co-ordinated sequence to ICE ICE Baby!

No Bones Jones

The Gruffalo in the KidzField :D
