Is it a case of Pulp playing everywhere this summer and Eavis not wanting to jump on the bandwagon? If so then I think that is sad.

Dammit! I met Jarvis at Primavera (VIP ticket, I'm kind of a big deal). I totally should've asked him why they're not at Glastonbury.

FWIW, I think they're trying to make some hay - hence Reading, Wireless (rather than doing their own Hyde Park show). I also gather that they're thinking of doing more stuff, so maybe they'll do Glasto in 2013 when it might be a bit more special.

As an aside, they were INCREDIBLE at Primavera

I didn't see Pulp in 94 and if they play this year I probably won't hear them this year. However they were on the same line up as Blur, oasis and Radiohead and I did not see them either.

It cant be a case of them playing too many festivals, it didnt stop glastonbury booking the verve the other year when they played EVERYWHERE.

That being said, I cant imagine what could possibly have gone wrong. It cant even be that they insisted on headlining or nothing, as they arent headlining isle of wight.

I think it's just a case of jarvis and the band not thinking glastonbury is anything like as special and important as we all do.

You're wrong. Judging by the Lamacq interview the other week and their comments on The Beat Is The Law documentary, the band still regard it as the moment in their career in which they finally hit the big time and they all made clear it still holds a special place in their hearts.

Last year when I was walking away from the park past the tipi fields after seeing who the special guests were(biffy clyro,not really a fan though) I did see Jarvis Cocker walking past with a friend of his,and the place of course was absolutely packed out,its a great area with the hill and the surroundings,i wonder if Jarvis saw them and their crowd and quite fancied doing a secret slot himself.

Ide hope Pulp might want to do a new album,and Pulp can headliner in 2013.

Im not to fussed that their not headlining as im quite lucky to have the money to go to leeds and glasto fests.

But i would have preferred pulp at glasto,would be way more impressive,just like blur 2009 mark 2.

That seems to be the most likely scenario for me. The money thing doesn't ring true IMO. They would still have made a pretty packet at Glastonbury, even if not as much as Festival Republic gave.

Plus everything I've ever heard from Jarvis is positive about Glasto, so don't buy that the band wasn't keen.

All in all though, when asking the 'Why Not' question, it makes me more and more confident that they might be one of the special guests...

They won't be doing a new album, they've already said no to albums but possibly to more gigs.

If there was a festival next year then you could almost understand them milking other festivals this Summer and then playing Glastonbury next year after a tour, but it seems as though this will be their only chance to play Glastonbury again (can't see them still gigging in 2013). Odd.
