FWIW, after recent years I can see an escalation in the calibre and size of the acts in these slots. That and the slightly later (and if I'm not mistaken - longer) slots allocated leads me to believe that this may continue.

AFAIK no one was hurt and there wasn't a crowding issue at Biffy/Radiohalf last year and it was big PR for the fest in the press and amongst punters.

It is therefore elementary dear eFesters that this year, they will have gone for big acts and may try to keep the secret a bit better to balance it out. Therefore, I reckon Pulp (or some form of them) are a great shout as is a Jay-Zed MC/DJ set. Let's not forget it's a fallow the year after so something memorable will be required to (a) top last year and (B) keep the festival so popular for 2013.

Honestly think there's a chance of Arcade Fire, especially if they're likely headliners for 2013/14. They're free on the Saturday.

There's probably only about a very small chance of it happening, but I think they're the most likely 'massive' band to do it. Especially as they all love Radiohead massively and likely heard of last year's set.

Hmm, from what I remember, last years special guests generally weren't predicted (perhaps a few people mentioned Biffy, but I certainly don't remember any people predicting Thom Yorke) so I guess it'll be the same again, with at least one of the bands out of left-field. My guess (based on nothing other than wishful thinking) is Super Furry Animals. Not sure they are officially still together, but that would be incredible.

Also, surely Bjork is a possibility... isn't she in the UK from around Glasto time?

The thing about the Thom/Jonny slot is that it was the 40th anniversary, Eavis way saying that the best acts of the 40 years would be coming back. Ask anyone for a great Glastonbury performance and one of the names they'll say is Radiohead. They come as punters every year, the Eavises love them, they love the Eavises,I remember finding it odd that they weren't listed on the lineup.

So yes, it wasn't a normal special guest slot and it's unlikely that a band that big (although it wasn't the whole of Radiohead) would play that slot again, however, it is possible that other bands who heard about it are now wanting to play a special guest slot (which I can see that they might not due to them not being listed). It could also be the case that Eavis feels the pressure to bring a bigger act because of all this speculation.

But face it guys, we'll miss Elbow/Fleet Foxes/whoever and go there expecting Arcade Fire or Bjork or Pj or Pulp and it'll be Jonny Borrell and the hat.

I've just read this whole thread with interest...

Personally I think one of the special guests will be the pixies!

One of the band tweeted they were going to be at glastonbury but they are not on the line-up...

Also Foo Fighters have nothing planned on Glasto weekend, it is a free weekend in their european tour line-up, also don't forget that on the Sunday night Queens of the Stone Age are playing and it is widely expected that Dave Grohll may be on drums for their performance, which would suggest the foos for Sat night.

PJ Harvey is also a strong possible as she loves the festival and only lives an hour or so away in Dorset.

I personally hope it won't be Pulp but everyone is different.

Im gonna say Kanye West for the saturday slot.

Reason being I bet jay-z and beyonce will be in his ear telling him to come here, hence a secret slot will put him in the frame for the next fest. Also he can then special guest for beyoncé the next day.

I'd presonally rather see the Park kept acoustic and not go down the commercial/ hip hop of the other 'main stages'...

There is loads of urban acts this year already with Wu Tang, Chip Chippy Chip the monk (or whatever he calls himself), Beyonce and so on...

I was obviously mistaken about the Foo's as I didn't realise they were playing anywhere else - luckily I am seeing them in Milton Keynes begining of July.

I think we can pretty much confirm the Pixies, why would they tweet they were going to be there if they are not? and as they are not on the line-up that surely means they must be one of the special guests?

On a seperate note, the silent disco in the park is always worth a visit one night of the festival!

every year people suggest massive bands....(remember '09 when people were convinced it was Muse and Klaxons walk out)...

Realisticly I can see something like Coxon and Albarn (like the NME awards show) or an acoustic Suede or pulp kind of show. Last year was something magical and sadly won't happen every year.

I'm really hoping, now the Libertines aren't playing, for a Pete/Carl acoustic show!

Not sure if it has been posted on this thread but could Ryan Adams be a possibility. He's free on the Friday from his UK tour.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
