arcade fire before u2 on the friday

I'm not surprised by this as I'd wrote off Arcade Fire playing a while back.

Like has been said, it was Dizzee Rascal before U2 last year, so Arcade Fire were probably too similar and also too big to be expected to be playing that slot. If anything I'd say it'd be on the Other Stage against U2, and given it seems Chemicals, Underworld and Libertines are looking likely for them I've wrote them off.

Although saying that Elbow, are probably similar in the "big, but also slightly niche and outside the mainstream". Need to listen to some old Elbow stuff, couldn't really get into Seldom Seen Kid.

Will be a pleasant surprise for me if Arcade Fire get announced, but think it's been very low chance for a while.

Got tickets to see Arcade Fire next year though (and saw twice this year).

If it is elbow instead of Arcade fire it is massive step down, elbow will definitely be a big draw just not as big as AF.

I for one will be gutted if they don't play but I imagine I'll get over it.

:)

Seriously though, it doesn't put it into perspective.

If the 'biggest band in the world' need a huge support act that's much bigger than the norm, then it would follow that that act would need a super duper huge third from top act before them, and so on.

Elbow have already shown they can support U2 (by.....supporting them), and I can see no reason why they can't play before them.

To the guy that said they were 3rd from top on the other stage in 2008, Glastonbury throws up these odd scheduling things from time to time. Why, for example, did Super Furry Animals headline the Other Stage in 2003, then play on the same stage at 3pm in 2007?

Very much doubt they would do a the special guest slot. Unlike Radiohead, they dont hold glasto very close to their hearts.

I would be brilliant though.

U2 are still down as SR instead of TBC. Also you would have though they would have been the first headliner announced, then Coldplay followed by their diverse trump card, Beyonce for max shock value. Giving the fans U2 would have still announced a headliner, although a pretty obvious one.

My thinking is the shock will now be u2 not playing. Or is that just wishful thinking??

the fratellis were horrible a few years ago when we saw them, that was after 2 albums, elbow will have 5 behind them by the time they support u2 and anyone who saw them in 2008 wouldnt deny them the opportunity, theyve bided their time, built on their success and are moving steadily up the line up. Unlike the kooks and Fratellis who didnt deserve to be anywhere near the position they were in.

i cant wait to see the new material.

I never thought they were playing. Id they had set a slot in their tour for Glastonbury, maybe. But they seemed to not even consider it. U2 have been a cert for Friday for ages. They will have known this or been able to find out and could have left a space to play Sat or Sun if they wanted. I doubt they ever really considered cutting it fine by playing the Friday.

I guess they could still play Other? But I doubt it?

If it's U2 - Arcade Fire - Bright eyes there will be actual tears.
