i know that a few years ago when Portishead were touring that huge efforts were made to try and persuade them to play, with no luck. I'd guess that whatever their reasons were then for not wanting to do it still apply.

Link's down now, think SeeTickets may have jumped the gun over the official announcement, had an email alert about something [P] happening today.

It perhaps makes Glasto less likely if the contract is exclusive though, as sometimes happens. Having said that I seem to remember Geoff said they would have been keen to play in '08 but couldn't for personal reasons.

I need this to happen. Was really disappointed Portishead didn't play the 40th this year, so hopefully they'll turn up somewhere this year.

Otherwise, I may just have to get tickets to this ATP thing they're organising.

I just booked early bird tix on SeeTickets anyway, the last Portishead curated ATP was brilliant. Hope any album release comes after this in a way

I can't be the only one who chose Portishead in The Acoustic Tent over Pulp on The Pyramid Stage in '95?

The Dando delay and all that?

We could hear the singalong to Common People from there.

A great night for anyone in either place methinks.

Just tried to Google "Glastonbury lineup 95" to make sure I was not confusing years, was getting etting nowhere, refined my search, and Hey Presto this, of course.

you certainly weren't - sooooooo many people tried going to see Portishead it wasn't even possible to get into the field that the acoustic tent is in. I've never seen a smaller stage so mobbed at Glastonbury in all the years I've been.

I gave up in the end - if I'd have got into the field I defo wouldn't have got near enough the tent to hear much - and ended up going to the cabaret tent (as did a lot of people that couldn't get into Portishead), where we were treated to Corky & The Juice Pigs doing a very amusing impersonation of them.
