Interesting, I've been on the unofficial Daft Punk forum wher all the daft Punk geeks chat and they recon it's fake. It's a tough one, the music is very Daft Punk like but then again it could easily have been made up. Any way I like it and I guess we'll find out in time if it is them.

Theres just a few little things that dont add up with it being DP. starting at a spanish festival and having a myspace update in spanish back in august... "Third Twin Djs se ha unido a MySpace. Mood: good"

Dunno, listening on the youtube channel rather than the myspace helps...and being sober...but im still not convinced

Just received this press release:

The Third Twin, first confirmation at the Line up of the Arenal Sound 2011

Madrid, January 10, 2011.--The Third Twin is a French electronic music duo which is getting very popular around the business in the recent months. The reason is simple: They are directly related to the famous Daft Punk. They are in the second edition of the festival which takes place from August 4-7 at the Playa El Arenal from Burriana, Castellón, Spain. The show up of this mysterious group opens the Arenal Sound line up 2011.

The stage name of The Third Twin emerged supposedly with the aim of publishing the issues proposed by Daft Punk to Disney´s movie “Tron”: Legacy. The company initially considered the material too oriented to electronic sounds because of that they refused it. The company ordered a new batch of compositions more orchestral and traditional which finally took part of the soundtrack of the film which was recently released with great success.

Daft Punk could not sign with their original name, music themes nor use any clear reference to the film for legal reasons. That is the reason why the well-known French electronic tandem had to use allegedly that pseudonym.

The result was The Third Twin or TTT, a music project which contain the songs published that is part of that band sound rejected. It was compiled together in an album entitled “Homemade” where you can find those tracks such as "Evil Minds" "Technolers" or "The Time is Over. " The Third Twin has their own profile on MySpace where they have an extensive music material and songs that made "Homemade" and reached a great amount of visits on YouTube. (http://www.thethirdtwin.com)

Arenal Sound becomes one of the many international festivals on this category to bring significant DJ's highly praised at the time, The Third Twin. (http://www.arenalsound.com). Just wait and see their performance at the festival to discover if the mystery is revealed.

The organization also confirms in the coming days the start of the selling of tickets for the Arenal Sound 2011 with a limited quantity of tickets from 25 euros.

the more that comes out about this the more I doubt it. This'll be Daft Punk's first live gigs since 07, surely it'll be more high profile? Fair enough if they were going to do some secret gigs to try new material but this is hardly secret is it?

Why does it need to be high profile? They have a massive world following already and what is wrong with changing how to do things from time to time? Madonna reinvents herself every 32 seconds and there is never an issue (apart from the sniggers as she gets more ridiculous).

DP do imo need to return as something different from before. The Pyramid tour was utterly seminal and what on earth can they come back with to match that? They have been producing music for at least 15 years now, it's time to see something new. It was utterly inevitable that they would/should do the TRON soundtrack (anyone that saw them on the Alive Tour back in 07 knew it was only a matter of time before TRON itself came back into the public domain!) Sadly, I don't think we will ever get to see or hear any of the TRON soundtrack music ever played out...but here's hoping eh? It's truly stunning (am listening to it as I write), Vangelis (Bladerunner) for the 21st Century! :D

A low-key/fake (or not fake it turns out) approach to performing is a great idea. If it is Guy and Tom, bloody brilliant, no...f**king MARVELLOUS!!! The music is difficult to fathom whether there are some clever kids out there doing great soundalike mash ups or G&T are doing what they do best and that is stay nicely in the background concocting something clever themselves as always.

I can't blame them if they have had to create a new guise to be able to release music they wrote themselves but Disney are playing at silly buggers over ownership.

As far as I know they didnt even play at the London Premier of TRON, for what reason I am not sure but I can understand if its because they were pissed off with their treatment a bit. Ok, so the royalties from the film arent going to be bad but to not then be able to release your own tunes/work afterwards is a bit pants.

Ok so some people may and do find the whole turning into robots concept a little silly but it was an inspired invention I reckon and they have truly become one of the most distinctive electronic acts in existence, both aurally and visually. I don't think I could ever tire of the robots.

All I will say is Daft Punk are my daily bread at the moment. They lift my day completely and close my night down beautifully. We waited far too long for them to return (live) between 97 to 06, a summer of even a half real appearance would bring such joy to the year.

Obvious point to make...whoever performs will be wearing masks anyway probably...noone would know if it was DP anyways ;):P

it appears that the act 'The Third Twin' are not Daft Punk, and that the whole thing might be a fraud of some kind.

I'm waiting to hear back from Daft Punk's agent, who I hope will be able to clarify things for us.

I'll post more information here when I have it.

    • made a last minute decision to go to Belladrum festival.   it was absolutely wonderful.   never been before, to be honest I think I was expecting a stage in a field and a burger van, but its nothing at all like that.   the site is beautiful, its small enough to get around, but big enough that there are things to discover round each corner, there are a good number of small stages tucked away.   you could quite easily convince yourself you were in Glastonbury in places.   I may have only been one time, but already learned a valuable lesson - the site itself may be Glastonbury like, but the "general camping" campsite is very much Reading like! as the morning mist rises... its a view like the Do Lung Bridge scene in Apocalypse Now...   so if you are not 15 years old, go to family or quiet camping which is fantastic.   its a real family friendly festival to - loads of families and kids of all ages running round and stuff for them to do.   I would 100% recommend it, and I really can't see any reason why I wont be going back next year!   🙂
