Weather thread 2011

Could hardly believe that I had to search onto the second page for the weather thread as we approach such a critical time.

Really worried that this smacks of complacency and that we are taking our collective eye off the ball. Yes things look pretty good on some forecasts right now but there is a VERY long way to go.

Come on people.

To be honest I don't think I would stick, that looks like it could all become very depressingly muddy, especially if the showers drift into Thursday as well. Sun or not, the first two days of showers would mean a mudfest.

Im out the loop this year, too busy with shizzle!!

Please keep an eye out for rain lovers and tell them their opinions are not wanted here.

42 pages is very, very low. 134 or something last year, much acceleration is therefore needed.

Don't let up, ever!!!

Wall to wall friken' sunshine and no arguments...

Clear are we not?

If it rains heavily, blame me.

For every festival (admittedly few) I have been to, the first time I've been it has been scorching hot and the second it has been miserable with frequent downpours.

I'm expecting this trend to continue. You can either do two things now, intercept my ticket quell the curse of the omens.

Really important part of all this is that the ground is not looking like it will take a good soaking leading up to the festival. This should mean IF we get any of the wet stuff it's impact will be drastically minimized.

Having said that I have every confidence we are heading towards a terrific spot of weather and we will all have a warm and pleasant one.

I thank you.

This will be my third Glasto and hopefully my second sunny one! 2007 was a pretty swampy one and the downpour on the Sunday night made taking down the tents hellish. Here's hoping for a 2010 repeat (maybe a bit more c***d coverage!). I will take overcast and humid over anything.

Can we get on to the forecasters and ask them to explain what "showers" means? This catch-all phrase for a slight misting to a heavy but brief rainfall will only lead to panic!

Or, do they mean that on Wednesday I'll be able to take a shower in the Travelodge and not have one until I'm home on the Monday?

Never forget how disastrous 'brief' showers can be. *cough* 2005 *cough*.

Anyway, I'm off to learn the second verse to Deutschland Uber Alles.

I went on holiday to Southern Portugal at the end of April for a week and it rained for 6 DAYS STRAIGHT! Therefore, myself and friends are due some good fortune and if karma has anything to do with it, it will be HOT, SUNNY AND BEAUTIFUL for the entire duration of the festival! FACT.

Ah, say no more. Nothing more disheartening than being able to hear the banal conversation behind you louder than the actual act.

Hmm. As of right now:

Wed 22nd - Showers, low pressure

Thu 23rd - Sun, low

Fri 24th - Sun, high

Sat 25th - Sun, high

Sun 26th - Sun, high

Mon 27th - Showers, low

Well, I'd stick. But a drift of the timing would be worrying

pretty hefty caveat attached to that forecast though...

"The 17 to 30 day UK outlook is generated using probability data and weather singularities. Large local variations in the weather do occur and the forecast is intended only to give an indication of the most likely average weather conditions across the UK at the time of year the forecast is for. The forecast rolls forward every day of the year."

my gran could forecast that accurately...and she's been dead for years.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
