Hopefully, we'll get the proper geeky long range forecast this week, and then - I can't remember who it is, but he'll start teasing us with more tales of woe! I remember they were shite last year - and look what happened! xx

First weekly summary of (very) long term modelling for the Glastonbury festival 2011. Sorry about the dalay from Friday, but this does mean I ahve been able to collect a full week of data to analyse.

CFS issue date

Monday 9 May :- Pressure building from the South West, and with winds from the West or South West, largely dry except for a few showers, Temps High Teens Wed - Fri, in the 20s over the weekend.

Tuesday 10 May :- High Pressure to start, but pressure falling with Low Pressure starting to edge in from west. Dry to start but rain at times over the weekend, some heavy, Temps low 20s to start, into the high teens for the weekend.

Wednesday 11 May :- Low Pressure over Scandinavia to start, with pressure building from the South West over the weekend. Some rain around on the Thursday and Friday, but largely dry over the weekend, temps mid to high teens.

Thursday 12 May :- Very Unsettled to start with heavy rain, slightly more settled over weekend as High builds in from South West but still with some rain at times, temps mid to high teens.

Friday 13 May :- Rather unsettled throughout with Low Pressure over or close to the UK, with rain quite possible on each day, temps mid to high teens.

Saturday 14 May :-Low Pressure to start, but high pressure slowly building from the South West. Heavy rain Mon-Fri, more showery over the weekend, temps in the mid teens generally.

So initial thoughts are for a rather unsettled festival, and rather cool to boot, luckily however these are very preliminary forecasts with plenty of time for things to change.

I trust the Met Office forecast more than most and they only predict up to 30 days ahead.

So their current forecast says:

UK Outlook for Tuesday 31 May 2011 to Tuesday 14 Jun 2011:There are some signs that rainfall amounts overall will be close to average for the time of year, though there is a lot of uncertainty. Both daytime and night-time temperatures are likely to remain above average, although, once again, there is a fair amount of doubt about where the warmest conditions will be. Sunshine amounts on the whole are likely to be near average.

At present all they seem to be able to predict is that there will be a lot of doubt about so watch out for showers or clouds of doubt.

The JackOne post?

I read it because I'm a NetWeather member and everyone on the boards there agrees that this far out it's just a bit of fun. The point is, don't worry about forecasts until we are within 10 days, don't believe them until we are within a week and don't trust them until we are within 3 days.

JackOne is an excellent forecaster and a member of the NetWeather Site Forecast Team, but the Glastonbury long range forecasts can easily be taken out of context and relied upon.

Sorry if I was being flippant, but we go through this every year. If you read my posts from last year's thread, you'll see.

See you in the sunshine.

For nostalgia purposes I just checked to see how many pages "weather thread 2010" had at today's date and we're in front by a massive 7 pages!

I actually cannot believe we made it to 165 pages before the festival began :O

Looking at the early forecasts put onto that thread they aren't to dis-similar to what we're getting now.

Unsettled but a reasonable temperature...

In conclusion, Glastonbury Festival 2011 is going to be another scorcher.

I can see the headline already "Glastonbury signs off with the best yet"

Believe it people!

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
