World's best live venue

Spent all day at the O2 arena in London yesterday and I remember seeing a poster declaring it to be the worlds best venue my 1st thought what a load of w*nk.

No choice in drinks as you can only get a becks for an overpriced £4.30, they don't normally let you out for cigs, travelling there is a joke as buses take ages which leaves an expensive boat trip or the Jubilee line which is too often closed at night/weekends for repairs, barmaids are never that pretty, the security don't have a sense of humour and it feels new and flashy and not very rock n roll.

Much prefer the my beloved crappy Electric Ballroom or the Astoria before they closed it.

o2 is a souless pit! it's impressive but not for 'rock and roll'.

i dunno what my favourite venue is. i do like the academy at glasgow but the bands start so late i always have to miss the encore! suppose the picture house in edinburgh is pretty similar so that would get my vote as it's just a bawhair from the bus stop too!

I am quite partial to the Brighton Centre for epic electronic dance concerts eg. Chems, Prodge and Orbital.

Nicest looking has to be the Albert Hall really but the sound is shocking.

Earls Court is an epic fail obviously. £40+ for a gig in a shed...no thanks!

In terms of aesthetics, I really like the KOKO, but like most places it's an overpriced load of balls.

The Astoria was a terrible venue that put on really good bands. The sound in the Brixton Academy is f**king awful. Unless you're standing in the sweetspot, which is about 1 meter square between the sound desk and the stage.

+1 to Brixton. I really love that venue. Never had a bad gig there.

Koko is a cool venue but a scandalously expensive bar. I quite like the roundhouse, great acoustics and they really turn it up to 11 in that place.

I really like the Forum too, good little rock venue, and cus its a 2 minute walk down my road

Concorde 2 is my all time venue, converted ballroom, right under the walkway so the acoustics are great and brilliant atmosphere too even when people arn't moving. Camden Scala comes a close second though.

The worst venue I've been to has to be the Shepards Bush Empire, I saw Dinosaur Jr there and expected it to be earbleadingly loud, but it wasn't as the acoustics there are so awfull.

    • It feels really busy this year, loads of big groups of youngsters too. Slightly different vibe to previous years I've been. As with Tramlines, they're very chatty during sets and there's a constant stream of them in and out of the crowd... definitely feeling my age 😂   The Quarry stage I think is a lot smaller than previous years - seems similar size to Squid/Leadmill. Some sets have been difficult to get in.   I think I've reached my limit with mid-tier indie guitar bands. There's been quite a few this weekend where I've gone over to see them then walked away after 20 mins. Surprisingly, enjoyed the Fratellis set the most in this genre. Probably getting on for 20 years since I last saw them. Wasn't expecting them to do Yes Sir, I Can Boogie, which was fab!   Hugely enjoyed the Happy Mondays yesterday, and same but different with Radio Free Alice who I saw again on Friday, following Tramlines last weekend. A big run of pop acts today - Scissor Sisters will be fantastic!
