I have been overly harsh on them I suppose, success - especially the type KoL experienced post SoF can really f**k a band up sometimes, contractual obligations mean they might up the output rate whilst the quality of the writing drops in order to feed that output. Its very rarely anything to do with the band - its the money men wanting to milk the cash cow for all its worth before the "next big thing" comes around. Sometimes the greed can kill the cash cow.

KOL have not sold as many albums as the examples I used Oasis, Blur and ACDC who charge less than they have and as I said they could get away with charging more. Metallica who you have mentioned also had cheaper tickets. I wouldn't find it so bad if it was a steady increase, but their last arena dates, only last year, were going for nearly £20 cheaper or in the case of London actually £20. Most bands knock the prices up a few quid not that much and bigger bands over the years haven't even increased their prices to that level. And since then they haven't made the transition from small to big venues, there playing the same venues in the MEN and o2 again. But tbh I think thats where KOL are going atm. There not taking the stance of bands such as rock bands Oasis, ACDC, Radiohead, Arctics etc. and are going the way of the pop market in Elton John, Lady Gaga and charge as much as they can to the fans which tbh I find a bit disapointing. This new overbloated video doesn't change my opinion as well. I still think the musics alright and the new singles pretty good tbh, but I won't be rushing to get a ticket. But I agree with your last two sentences.

Maybe they havent sold more albums in total but they have probably sold more albums than oasis, blur, metallica and acdc put together in recent years, they are more relevant to todays crowd and have a lot of student type fans who tend to have the high amount of disposable income. The likes of radiohead and arctics couldnt charge that much as they would struggle to sell tickets unless its a day festival type thing. To me they can charge £1000 a ticket and it wouldnt bother me. People have the choice to pay or not pay, considering it looks like it will sell out, there are obviously thousands of people who think its a reasonable price.

Its the "dinner party set" I spoke of earlier that are buying KoL now, and its those same people that are probably buying the gig tickets. and AC/DC superceded KoL's last album sales in many territories with the decidedly average "Black Ice". I'm fairly sure KOL's offering at the time outsold Acca Dacca's. I'm also fairly sure KOL didn't headline Wembley Stadium either. And if someone offered me a ticket to see either band, I'm fairly sure sure which band I'd go see too.

I think your overestimating KOL. They have had one very big album in the U.K thats it with the predecessor to that doing fairly ok. It might have sold more than any album recently by Oasis, Metallica, ACDC etc but the thing is they would have gained their fans over the years and I bet its quite a average proportion who bought their recent albums. They'll still be loads who'll have their past albums in their collections but don't feel the need to purchase later ones which no doubt won't hit the heights of the earlier ones. It doesn't mean that there not willing to buy tickets which is a different matter though. Amy Winehouses last album would have sold more than OBTN but she couldn't get away with arena dates because album and ticket sales are different things. It doesn't mean that KOL are more relevant than the likes of ACDC or say the Foo Fighters who don't sell that much albums but sell a shedload of gig tickets and I'd say ACDC and Foo Fighters are more relevant. Thay can get away with their next album being mediocre but still sell tickets to Wembley because of the fan base they've built up. If KOL's next album did badly I'm sure they'll be knocking the prices of the next arena tour down to try and bring back the fans who maybe thought they charged too high this time around. Arctics tour actually sold out within an hour last year as well so I'm sure that they could have increased the price and still sold out, but didn't. All bands aren't trying to milk as much as they can from their fans.
