Tactically it was spot on. I haven't said anything otherwise. Rangers had to play that way to get a result, any other option would result in them losing the match. But it still remains, that the reason they played that way is due to the gulf in class between the 2 teams. Simples...

Rangers had no attacking intent at all - like alot of sides that visit Old Trafford.

It takes intelligence to defend like that and keep United at arms-length all game though.

Job well done.

Oh, I've not said different to that - from what I've heard they worked their gameplan very well, tho were helped by a toothless Utd performance (for which Utd & Fergie are getting a LOT of stick for from Utd fans).

But having a gameplan that pays off is a different thing from competing at an equal level.

but there was no 'huge' gulf in class evident, as we all agree that man utd were very very poor last night.

the gulf was shown by the fact that Rangers didn't try to win, because if they'd have tried to they'd have got beat. So says Walter Smith!!!

oh and rangers had 3 shots on goal, all on target. and one penalty claim that they have every right to complain about.

Oh, I know they had shots - I've seen the best one. And as I said, my 75 year old mum could have kicked that ball with more power, and she could have saved her own shot too. So that about equates to a five year old being able to save the best shot Rangers managed. ;)

Rangers did well last night, fair play to them. No surprise either, they always play like that away in the CL.

Fergies team selection was punishment for the performance against Everton at the weekend and it'll also fire up the players who were dropped for Liverpool on Sunday.

of course they would have. as would most teams like liverpool, everton, spurs, newcastle, valencia, bremen etc etc as steve says.

not sure about the others, but Liverpool spanked Utd 1-4 at OT a couple of seasons ago. That doesn't happen if you play like Rangers did last night. ;)

yet plenty teams try and defend like rangers do, and still get beaten. so again, where is this 'huge gulf' that modey said was evident in that game.

Bullshit do they. They might go with defence in mind, but not ONLY to defend as Rangers did by all accounts (including their own manager).

It's that simple fact that's the difference between Rangers last night and most other visitors to OT.

=================

I've just read that Rangers fans felt that last night's security measures were "over the top" and "unnecessary".:lol::lol:

Look you stupid arseholes, if you don't smash the place up then such things never become necessary. You've reaped what you've sown. ;)

but despite setting up that way, the huge gulf in class wasn't evident as modey suggested as they still got forward. not to mention how awful man utd were. if you choose to watch the game, can you count how many times fletcher gave the ball away? and giggs when he came on. there were some awful individual performances from man utd players.

and agreed about the fans. nob'eds.

Rooney was non existant and other than Gibsons long range shot i don't remember United troubling McGregor at all.Infact after 75 minutes United had only had 2 shots on target compared to Rangers 3 as we all had a laugh about it,not sure how that stat ended up.

Rangers did themselves proud and can be commended. They played for the draw and barely worried about one of the best teams in Europe containing one of this generations mega stars. To look down your nose at that just shows you to be ignorant.

"Still got forward"?

How does their best shot from 30 yards and with a strength that most ten year olds would be embarrassed about get to become "getting forwards"?

In other news when Scottish players stop taking free kicks, Estonians score goals!

Tarmo 'Parmo' Kink with a double coming off the bench last night.

A needed win for Boro last night. In your face..ahem...Burnley!

Halliday is looking like a good player. I dont mind Boyd either although Lita was picked last night instead. Its out midfield thats the problem. Strikers cant score goals if they dont have a creative midfield behind them and we dont.

    • I'd be absolutely amazed if they went without a female headliner.

    • Kinda sounds like we’re heading towards Fender, Fontaines & Harry however I can’t see them not getting a female headliner so think it’ll be Fender or Fontaines and another. They’ll obviously try for Madonna but they’ve also tried before, really depends on whether she’s bothered about it.
    • and we are all set up for 222 and 122😉😊
