I would be happy with a more competitive league in Scotland (watching it is hard work at the best of times) but it's just not going to happen because of the size of Rangers and Celtic compared to all the other clubs. It's just unfair how a team can win the SPL and have to go through 2 qualifying rounds whereas a team that finished 4th in the Premier League only has to go through one!

I'm not biased atall towards Rangers, I'm arguing this on a whole Scottish football level. The reason why Scotland has went from one automatic qualification is because of the restructure Platini brought in which clearly favours the bigger teams. The coefficent is over 5 years which includes Rangers getting to the Uefa Cup final and both Rangers and Celtic reaching the knockout stages....

No, which clearly favours the more *successful* teams. Which is exactly the situation that Rangers benefits from in Scotland, and from which they end up in the Chumps every year.

If it shouldn't be a competition that favours success, then it follows that the teams that get into it shouldn't be necessarily successful either.

As things stand Rangers have all the chance they need to get as far as they want, each and every year - regardless of whether they're successful in Scotland or not. Which is better for them than them only getting in every other year on average if they first had to be successful at home.

By being in the qualies.

If they ain't good enough to beat the Lithuanian champions or whichever minnows they get put up against in those qualies, then it's just the same as Rangers are considering Kilmarock or whoever else are the SPL's bottom also-rans who don't get to make worthwhile progress in that league.

If winning is what makes Rangers SPL champions and they think that's fair - and they do!!, then they can't really complain when others win to Rangers detriment can they? To complain would be ridiculous. So Rangers are ridiculous by complaining.

why would they complain about the gap in scotland? even if it was more even, celtic and rangers would still come top. end of the day, the best players want to play for celtic and rangers. always has been that way, always will be. if the finances are the same, can you really see robbie keane or whoever choosing to play for hibs if celtic or rangers came in for them?

Unless it happens, how can you ever know?

The simple fact is that Rangers are the beneficiaries of an unfair competition, so it takes the biscuit for them to complain that the bye they get for eternity into the Chumps qualies as a result of that unfairness is itself unfair.

Arsenal were great to watch tonight, much better than last nights game. Big gulf in class between the two teams but at least we saw some good football and some goals.

Why? The format is fine, just dont bother with English teams in the earlier rounds, well - Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea this season. Some much more interesting games out there to watch at various stages that give you an idea of other footballing nations - I watched AC Milan v Auxerre tonight, Pato looked shite. If I didn't have money going on AC I'd have watched Madrid - Ajax.
