Silent Disco....?

The Silent Disco.....

Basically, I have heard alot about this, and have recently watched a youtube video that looked quite weird. I asked alot of my mates what the crack is with it and they said they never had a chance to see it as it tends to get too busy.

Can someone enlighten me to specifics, and is it worth queuing to get in?

What , Where, When, Who ?

Cheers

I've never been in, but I know the deal.

On your way in, you're handed some wireless headphones. You put them on, you get music, you dance and sing along.

You take them off, and everyone else looks really funny dancing to no music.

On the way out, you hand them back.

I think they often go for cheese. When I passed on Thursday last year, there was a massed bawling out of Wonderwall going on.

I've heard of ones where there are two DJs on at once, with different headphones getting different music. So you might be dancing to a different beat from other people. Dunno whether that's done at Glastonbury.

You get a set of headphones with 2 channels, choose your DJ and get down and boogying!! Its that easy.

We went to the Park site on Wednesday last year queued a bit but got in eventually. The Thursday queue was mental after Zane Lowe so we never bothered. The DJ in the one on the Park always says he is playing the show live on Dutch radio.

Joe Banana's had one on the Saturday last year too. I think there are several now. Just have to wander round and see what you find.

I went in the park one on Wednesday last year and walked straight back out as it wasn't my cup of tea. Didn't queue for more than 5 minutes.

Joe Bananas one was awesome. People kept stopping us to see what we were dancing too and there was a rather out of tune rendition of Kings of Leon too....we didnt realise quite how loud we were all screeching when we had the headphones on!

i was in the one in the park after midlake were on , well we wandered to the bimble inn first is it?

in a way its ok but fairly total dog shit too

you spend 33.3r percent of your time going wild to tunes you like

33.3r percent wondering if your chums are listening to what you are

and the final 33.3r percent asking them loudly while holding your head phones

and if ive not done the math shit right so what, f off

Done it a couple of times- the best was the first time in the dance village in '07 with Klaxons dj-ing.

Quite enjoyed last year in the park with that Dutch fella- he was MENTAL, some good tunes but the gimmick has kind of worn off on me now.

May try the Joe bananas one if I'm ever at a loose end (doubtful at glasto) I've heard that the one in the dance village is to be run by a good bunch of DJ's this year so may also check that out should the 'one way system' to the proper late night action prove difficult to negotiate...

The Park one was a good laugh last year. Went in twice and the Dutch guy was up against an English DJ both times. Played some good stuff, some weird stuff and some cheesy tunes too.

That Dutch fella is a legend. Some of his segways had me in stitches.

    • As someone that always likes looking at this stuff, compare the BBC opening titles...     ... and the ITV ones.     Tbf the BBC intro is better than the ones they used for the last World Cup, which I thought were pretty bad and on its own, the BBC choice actually isn't too bad. It's not as good as their pinball one for the last Euros, but the concept is reasonable. But let's be real, the ITV one is better.

    • Another new one from Overmono.   Album is shaping up nicely.
    • I'm only judging by highlights but considering that I saw a lot of anxieties from US fans about them getting it wrong after several bad results in the last year or so, they very much had it on opening night. Might be as much about Paraguay being a long way from the team that beat Brazil and Argentina in qualifying though.   Canada also doing something in a World Cup other than lose and arguably be good enough to have beaten Bosnia means reasonable start. Think they might regret not winning though.
