They had a big influence but I don't reckon they are the most important band, you're saying that they're more important than the likes of Coldplay, Muse, Radiohead, who themselves had made they're own contribution to music in a more quantitative and qualitative nature.

Still, wouldn't mind them headlining, would be great to see them, especially with their new album out. Looks dead on to me.

RHCP were a joke last time they played, they just couldn't be arsed and it was obvious. It was embarassing how little attention most people were paying towards the end.

Muse were also disappointing in 2006 but I was quite a big fan back then, I'm not so hot on them nowadays so I might be impressed. I think it would be a good booking given their sterling live reputation and something I'd look forward too, even though they've headlined every other festival in the world in the last few years.

The Strokes are a headline band and I'd be surprised if they subbed, but I can understand questions about their stature. Maybe they'll do what they did with Arcade Fire and team them up with a strong sub-headliner and a popular tent headliner. If they're half as good Arcade Fire were it'll be a success.

BTW people I don't want RHCP to play... they were awful last time... I left bout two thirds through cause I was so bored... I just cant see where else they are playing atm...

Plus lucastang I know what you are saying bout RHCP playing in 07 but I wouldn't be surprised if FR were finding it hard to secure headliners and so booked RHCP again... Unfortunately I doubt they would be interesting and book Tool to headline :( Or I would love it if they booked someone like Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins or Pearl Jam again but won't happen...

Suppose Iron Maiden could be an out of the blue headliner but that would be crap...

Whatever point they were trying to prove by not playing Under The Bridge, it didn't go down well. I'm all for bands not playing the same set all summer at every festival but when their jamming could have been replaced by 3 or 4 songs it took the piss a bit.

inb4 chilis jam, it's their thing.

They basically kickstarted the whole Indie movement off, for better or for worse. Before The Strokes came in all that was being produced in Alternative Rock was Californian Punk/Metal bands that sounded the same, and leftovers from Britpop. Undeniable that Indie was the most popular movement in the 00s.Not sure if Muse or Coldplay have achieved something like that in terms of influence and being at the front of scenes, but they are both bigger bands.

But surely after a poor performance and booking them yet again would make FR not even think about it? Tbh if they are booked, then they'll sub, as unlikely as that may sounds but they can't headline again. Think about it last year, no one really thought about AF headlining before they were rumoured, so that just admits that FR do have their choices.

I'm actually coming round to the idea of MCR being the 3rd headliner.

The Strokes, MCR and Muse may be a bit of a more subdued set of headliners, but this could be a blessing in disguise as it could give way to another strong line-up like 2010, which was a great line-up in terms of strength. Presuming FR have to work within a budget.

Whereas 2009 had a really strong set of headliners (even though none of them were heavy waah waah whine moan etc :P ) but the line-up was weak.

Mind you, 2008 had a solid set as well and that line-up was unbelievable so I don't know. But I'm guessing the weaker the headliners, the more money is left to get bands further down the bill to add a bit of meat to the line-up.

RHCP wouldn't sub a fest in the world... Plus on readingfestivalonline (now sadly closed down) I was talking bout Arcade Fire headlining Reading for a fair while before they were even announced for Oxegen... to be honest I thought it was pretty important for Reading to do it and they would be idiots not to... but yeah my point just is if they can't find a big enough set of headliners I would have thought FR would book Chilis if they had the oppurtunity still... although MCR, The Strokes and Muse is still def a big enough set of headliners to sell out Reading... tbh the festival would prob still sell out with a fair bit weaker headliners..

Don't know why Bombay are so low. I've noticed that on quite a few predictions. They'll be around 5th on main if they're playing I reckon. They started getting a bit of a following at the end of the tour for the first album helped by the nme tour and airplay from radio 1. Their second did pretty well as well getting in the top 10 for what was really a album consisting of covers and acoustic tracks, some of tracks even on the first album. I reckon they'll get bigger with their third and will be playing academy size venues which doesn't equate to thrird from bottom.

White Lies would headline the second imo and I can see Crystal Castles subbing it to someone. TCV won't play. QOTSA and Foo's will be way too busy. Pigeons will be at either Reading or V what with coming back with a new album, but I can see em at V tbh. MGMT won't play. There was something about them last year with Neil saying they didn't want to play or something along them lines. Which seems about right. With them touring the second album and no competition from V for em, why would they not play then but play now. Similarly with 30stm. I'm sure FR would have had plenty of chances in the past, not sure why they would want them now. With all the repeat bookings they make they could have had them before. Not sure why they'd have em now.

    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
