thats beyond anything i've said and is well out of order mate. it also illustrates my earlier point about you being a bit rude to people exactly. surely if i am only getting upset about you being rude to people, you recognise that this is the worst thing you could have done.

Right, so you think it wrong for me to be rude to people, but you think it's OK for you to post know-nothing crap about my supposed failings in running this website, and your own know-nothing crap can't ever be rude itself because it's come from your mouth and not mine.

Ain't it a great world? :P:P:P

i don't think i deserve to be spoken to like that because i wouldn't take that kind talk off anyone.

Utter crap. You've done much the same with your know-nothing crap about my supposed failings in running this website.

In the absence of anything intelligent to contribute - and you certainly don't have that, as shown by your know-nothing accusations - if you want to match your very high and very wrong opinion of yourself, you'll have to learn to keep your know-nothing gob shut.

Don't dish it out if you can't take it back.

The funny thing is that if everyone had got a virus off a porn site, no one would have said or done anything about it.

However, because it came off here, and everyone thinks they know each other they are kicking up a massive fuss about it.

Get over yourselves

thanks to you and ralph250 for the help. I tried that though, and either I'm not sure what I'm doing (which is possible) or the virus dug itself in deeper than it did for others (which I believe to be the case)...

never mind, just spent the best part of the day, and $100 ( :P ) with Norton sorting my laptop out...

and I still don't blame Neil for the virus, and he still thinks I'm a moron...

hey ho :P

Yep (I meant 'provide' not 'prove' - apologies for the typo)

As opposed to doing things in the way that will suck the greatest amount of money out of the greatest amount of people, which is the standard way that the majority of businesses work.

That difference is able to work here because there's clearly a market for a truthful angle rather than a contrived-for-money angle. I've been pleased to find out that there is, because looking outside it seems that today's world only wants fluff and no substance.

Taking the approach that we do doesn't mean that our readers will necessarily agree with us, but at least they'll be able to know that what is presented is presented as straight opinion and not something that's said for financial advantage thru lies.

There's another festivals website out there (at least one, perhaps more) which will print anything if they're paid enough (I know this is the case and have the emails to prove it - there's some very stupid people out there who send emails to the wrong place :P). So while they might sometimes give a straight opinion there's no way for anyone to know if it's that.

They are both markets though, whether for your truth or for someone else's apparently distorted version of the truth. Both imply the exchange of cash for information.

Having the ability to empathise with someone's problems, albeit of their own making, e.g., having inadequate AV software running, does not need to interfere with your principles and your site's raison d'etre. If anything, a short post along the lines of 'I'm sorry to hear many of your PCs have been infected with a virus after visiting this site - it was beyond my control and I've rectified the situation', along with a link to the more helpful posts on how to remove the virus, might have gone some way to enhancing your reputation as a purveyor of opinion based on fact rather than fancy/cash. It did not have to imply admission of liability but would have shown you are concerend for you community of users.

What vexes me is the implication that you do not care for your users' problems as that they are of their own making. It's a worryingly individualistic credo which appears contrary your otherwise egalitarian concerns.

True. But one is driven only by wanting cash, the other the complete opposite.

They're not my community of users. They're people who chose to use this website.

And me, I'm such a fan of one way streets that I deliberately choose to drive the wrong way up them. It makes the people I bump into wonder if it's them that's driving the wrong way. And sometimes it is. :P

If that was the case then this website getting hacked beyond the control of anyone wouldn't have bothered me a bit, I'd not have skipped breakfast to get it resolved as soon as humanly possible, I'd not have spent nearly a grand now looking into current issues and possible future issues, and I wouldn't be bothering with this thread.

I understand both points of view and opinions and I was in no way affected.

However, it does strike me as odd that for a website who gains income (however small) for being popular which was almost certainly caused, as Neil has pointed out, by not going down the "sell any old lies for money" route, that even if Neil isn't bothered about who stays or goes, that he could atleast grasp the idea that by abusing people on the board isn't going to win points with those other readers who come here to read the said factual content.

It's a great website but I'm shocked at the PR handling in what are obviously stressful times for all. In almost any other forum I would have expected by now a simple "look we aren't going to agree and I've said my piece" by Admin and then leaving the thread to die out... consistently returning to repeat you're point of view with abuse doesn't in anyway show Neil in a good light. If you feel so strongly Neil then why don't you go the whole hog and ban those that are annoying you? or perhaps step away from the thread?

the whole hog will be pulling the plug on it all - that's the option under serious consideration.

I've reached the point where I really don't give a shit. I've as much right to stand behind my view as others have with theirs, and I will continue to.
