Tuesday night parking. A chance to party?

So I suspect that things will be organised in some way so that that doesn't happen, and the easiest way to achieve that IMO would be via an instruction that people basically have to stay in their cars.

Would that really be enforceable though? Tens of thousands of people ordered to stay in their cars. Can't see anyone expecting that or liking it.

If that's how they chose to do things, then yes, it would be enforceable, and you know it.

Totally different situation though was'nt it, as you also know. Anyway no imo I can't see such a rule happening, let alone enforced. How could they police such a rule? Would you only be allowed out of your car to go the toilet!? Thousands of people inprisoned in their cars for hours upon hours. If thats the rule then I see a lot of trouble and bad feeling brewing in the car parks, not a great way to start the fest really.

IMO, it'd be easier to enforce than rules which allow people to wander around.

If that's the rule then the 'great' British public will accept it like they do all other rules - meekly.

If that's the rule then there will of course be a get-out for any person from that rule - not to use the early car parks. No one would need to be forced to do anything that wasn't to their liking.

We'll be getting there Tuesday night because it took us 16 hours to get there from Wakefield last year. We're all relatively poor so a hotel isn't a sensible option. I intend to get out of the car, have a sit down on the grass and chat with people in the cars parked near us. Hopefully we'll be allowed to do this.

This is exactly the vibe that I thought of when I did the OP. I can't see anyone objecting to that. If a large crowd builds up then I'm sure common sense dictates that the stewards will intervene.

while that's common sense from one angle, there's also the risk from another angle that once a large crowd has built up then it's too late to try and get control of things - which is why I don't think the fest will be wanting to take such a relaxed line.

The festival has said that festival-goers will be expected to remain in their cars. Presumably that's precisely what they mean.

But I'm sure evrybody will behave like good citizens and remain in the car for a number of hours going slowly numb

Best practice in crowd management is about anticipating what the crowd will do, and is more about working around the group behaviour rather than preventing it.

(It's this reason it's termed crowd *management* these days, not crowd *control*)

The notion that there will be "stay in your car" enforcement lies way outside accepted best practice in events, and the people at the helm of the operation will I'm sure be well versed in that.

If there's a particularly big "car boot" party, then maybe there'll be some encouragement to turn it down or switch off at an agreed time. This is the kind of thing that - for example - local plod will often do when attending an unexpected free party.

It's about taking a pragmatic approach.

If people are mingling, having a few beers, and not pumping out a 1k system, I doubt there'll be much hassle. Just use some common sense. Def no barbecues, gas kit or any other flames.

The idea that you step out of your car and have your ticket confiscated is nonsense.

Enjoy. I'll be other side of the fence. Maybe I'll take a late night walk up above the Park with some binoculars to see - in micro-view - how it's going.
