Cider

Drinking will be more expensive at the festival this year... From the Guardian Budget blog...

"Duty on cider will be increased by 10% above inflation from Sunday. And definitions will change, so strong ciders are taxed more heavily."

I assume Brothers counts as 'strong cider' as it's over 7%, but does Burrow Hill?

You're obviously drinking the wrong cider then. Ever tried Battle Cider that they had at Glade festival? Super strong, murky with bits in. definately not a girls drink!

Can't help but think that Darling's got something against Glasto based on that budget. A 10% increase in taxation above inflation is going to make a noticeable difference in the cost of cider at Glasto.

I'm really not sure why it got singled out either. Maybe he really hates those Strongbow ads...

The % increase is on the rate of duty NOT the retail price so the increase will only be a few pence per pint, there is no justification for the price of a pint at glastonbury to increase by more than 20p from last year taking the increase in duty and vat into account. The extra tax on "strong" ciders is not coming til September so won't effect Brothers this year (assuming they think 7% is strong), You can guarantee the brewers will change their ABV to just below the limit if it is possible. The current limit is 8.5% which is why you see brands such as 'K' with a ABV of 8.4%. If the new limit is 7% expect to see festival strength next year at 6.9% As with all government tax people always find ways to pay as little as possible!

It seems us genuine cider connoisseurs are being penalised for the behaviour of mutants who drink that very strong, tasteless cheap white cider and then go and cause grief. They seem to think that by humping the price up there will be no more grief......... :P

Still cider is two pints for the price of one I suppose but £4 a pint, over five days...............

    • I did get a little amusement at the idea that Infantino was upset Trump stood him up for the US opener last night given how hard he's been trying to get in his good books.   Tbf, I thought the Canadian roar at their equaliser was decent volume. Or maybe I just had my phone at a higher volume for it when I watched the highlights this morning.
    • Wonder if they’d ever headline Glasto again.  Would be very different a 2nd time around I reckon.
    • My mate is there now. She enjoyed them a lot but had never seen them before. Apparently there was an injury in the crowd near the end so took about 10 or so minutes to sort out. Hope the person is alright.    Feeder apparently drew a ridiculously huge crowd on the third stage.
    • This was never a surprise.   I'm hoping USA meet and lose to Iran in round of 16, just to really wind up Trump.
    • Watched this this morning -  absolute brilliance -  live show is peaking
