Maybe they took notice of my email this morning about the duplicate IE voting....

THURSDAY UPDATE: Thanks for all your votes so far - it's clearly something you feel passionate about. Please note, we'll be discounting duplicate votes from the final result. So please don't vote more than once. Here's how it stood at 9am this morning:

With duplcate votes - Keep them 49.73% / Ban them 50.27%

Without duplicate votes - Keep them 60.12% / Ban them 39.88%

(In fact, according to ProProfs, more than 4,000 of the 7,239 votes cast are actually duplicate votes!)

Interesting that the 'genuine' voting is in favour...

I dont think there is an answer to the problem, there is no way of enforcing the issue in a crowd of that size & as has been mentioned we already have far too many rules.

If you could keep them out of the area in front of the barrier & the mixing desk where the cameras are, then the poeple who are waving the king size flags so they are spotted will realise that there is little point in being there. maybe they will leave them at camp where they should be.

If they were not all crammed into this area they wouldnt be so bad but that picture above is rediculous. Plus I love looking down on the crowd below in all its vast glory from the back of the field as im sure the artists do looking out from the stage. It is truly a magical sight.

how about a separate fenced off section for flag wavers where they can all go and be with like minded flag enthusiasts, compare flag sizes, chat about flag making techniques/materials, where to get the cheapest poles and discuss how they really should get a life one day, that kind of shit.... just behind the mixing tower would be ideal, then they can enjoy the experience of seeing f**k all for a change!

Okay so the vote on the GF website is pretty much 50/50. Also looks like if anything it is going to stray a little more towards keeping the flags.

I think this result will only create 1 thing....More bloody flags than ever.

The moron flag wavers are gonna think they have a fundamental right to stand right near the front of the pyramid with as big a flag as they can get and think that that is what most people want !!

It might even turn out that 51% of the people in the pit have flags!! God forbid.

I really hope that by the time we get there Glasto at least does something to discourage them with annoucements and witty notices.

Failing that I will be praying for extreme lightning storms (with no rain)

Flags in front of the stage do NOT add any 'character' at all, they are just selfish and annoying. In fact I would argue that the atmosphere would be greatly enhanced in front of the stages when the audience and artists can actually see eachother. It was really refreshing to see the difference it made at Reading last year.

Fair enough, I suppose, but your small windsock still becomes an annoying sea of windsocks if everyone else brings one.

The flags bring a bit of spirit to the festival, they're part of the experience. I personally love looking at all the flags waving about, it's fantastic. Keep them I say! Who cares if the people on TV can't see? They should've bought a ticket...

I think like many others maybe flags should be just kept to the campsites or when people are wondering around.

Someone else said a page or two back that they were at the mixing desk for Kasabian last year and couldn't see anything. Our group were in a similar position, i'm 6ft2 and couldn't see anything, and neither could any of my friends. So we moved back so we could watch it on the big screen thats in the middle. Which was a lot better till people stood in front of that with flags too.

I have no problem with flags being at the festival, but it's increasinly got worse and worse as the years have gone by, when I pay my money to a festival I want to watch the bands not have to watch on the screen or stare at flags flapping around.

I know it creates a "picturesque" feel and sometiems performers comment on how good they look, but for the thousands behind you, it's spoiling it for them. Just so when you get back you can say "oh look theres my flag for Bruce Springsteen" or whoever.

Thinking about this, maybe the best solution is to insist that the flag wavers make their poles longer, like much longer. Sort of 60 - 70 foot. That way we get the best of both worlds. :P

Good Posting.

Actually, on reflection I agree with the above.

The flags at Glasto have got increasingly worse @ Pyramid & Other stage. 2009 was quite OTT at times.

(Although I loved the Rolf Harris banners, Flags & Australian themed items for his set @ Jazzworld)

I'll continue to take flags... but will keep them at campsite. Promise.

Hooray! We have managed to get one of you to see the light.

It is only flags obscuring the stages which is the issue here. Who gives a crap about having them anywhere else on site?

The problem is - what will they do when they know the results. It looks like it will be somewhere around 60-40 to keep the flags, but that still leaves a significant amount of people pissed off. I dont think they have achieved anything with this poll. Whatever they do they cant win.

They should have just made a decision and left it at that

I think 40% against shows a pretty strong groundswell. A few years ago, it would have been 90/10...although mainly the vote would have been 'meh'.

With no ban, what will it be next year...the ban will come eventually, may as well try something workable this year, rather than a draconian total ban in the future.

If people could just asked to be less selfish, that would be a start.

This is sad but true, a ban will eventually happen. And when it does I bet that hundreds of people on this forum, (including those who are for the ban), will be complaining "what ever happened to the free spirited nature at glastonbury?", and will even use the banning of flags as an example of how it changed. I think banning flags is a bad move. Yes it can be annoying, but so can a group of 7ft lanky teenagersl Just move until you have a good view

    • Brazil's first half was genuinely dreadful all round, not just the midfield, so they're absolutely not bulletproof. Whether Scotland have the quality to take advantage is a different question.   Tbf, that's as much on Morocco looking good, which I did think was a possibility. They could be a bit annoyed with themselves not to have scored more before Vini's goal tbh.
    • Surely nowadays with so much data analytics available on every division in world football and so much awareness that people aren't suckered in on the basis of a decent World Cup game... right?   Although tbf, from what I saw, Australia's game plan worked very well. But that was as much thanks to Turkey blowing varying opportunities given they created enough chances but couldn't finish, a la what happened with Switzerland against Qatar when they really could and should've won by 3/4 goals.
    • I missed Viagra Boys for a good spot for Gorillaz. Was a nice weekend and festival for me. Would definitely come back, if the line up is right. Get back home safe everyone.
    • The Last Temptation - new Heaven 17 documentary film directed by James Strong. Premiered at Sheffield Docfest this weekend.    I really enjoyed it. Affectionate, insightful, and honest. A nice mix of archival and footage, interviews and clips from the last tour. Martyn and Glenn are like an old married couple.   Plus a snippet of news from the Q&A, Martyn is recording new BEF material, and Phil Oakey has collaborated on the one of tracks. The film shows them meeting in Fagans for the first time in over 35 years.
