Brian Jonestown Massacre

I've been lucky the times I've seen them but I get the impression (esp after watching Dig!) that when they're good they're great but when they're bad they're bloody awful.

Lak, I started with Thank God for Mental Illness and the film Dig but you might want to try

Tepid Peppermint Wonderland, their greatest hits. I don't think you can go too wrong with the earlier stuff but the newer records can be a bit all over the place imo

I've seen them twice now (once as a photographer for Sandman Magazine) and I can honestley say they are car crash bad live. First time I saw them I can honestley say I couldn't work out if it was shockingly bad or genious. Anton is certifiable, it's uncomfortable to watch. Putting them on the pyramid was suicide, I wouldn't venture a visit again.

oh man. i used to LOVE brian jonestown. i can honestly say they are the worst band i've ever seen live.

anton was rude to members of the audience before he even got on stage. like, really bloody rude. then got wasted, stopped songs so he could shout at people. spent half his time waving his bare arse at the audience, drinking a whole bottle of sminoff and the rest of the band didn;t know what to do while he just made noise for 20 minutes.

i can do edgy, but they were just crap. never want to see them again.

having said that 'give it back' is fanastic. one of my favourite albums.

As has been said before BJM are amazing on record but can be a hit or miss live.

I saw them play Glasgow a few years ago and they were on form, apart from when Anton nealry fought Joel for smoking and told him he'd send him on the first train home. I thought, a train to America from Glasgow? :P

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
