Actually - wasn't it her Umbrella song that cursed the netire summer of 2007? The rain started the week it went to Number 1 and miraculously stopped the week it was knocked off.

I think I can say that for her contribution to the most persistently wet Glastonbury anyone can remember, she really shouldn't be allowed any where near the place.

As I have said, I am all for variety, but I am not sure Rhianna is a risk we can take - No Rain No Compromise!!

If you hear the whole interview she was actually badgered into answering, it wasn't a case of her saying it, it was a case of asking would you like to play Glastonbury? - out of context to the press conference. With the amount of journos in the room there's no way she would have said no, hence her saying it's important to industry (a great platform) - she's not going to blow out her chances of playing the future

There is a huge mix of people at Glastonbury but this year in particular I did notice almost every 'young' person (i.e. around 18 or so) seemed to be frightfully posh darling. Now this isn't something that bothers me (I'm ex-public school myself). I have no idea why there might be a higher ratio more middle class youngsters but I think there does seem to be a better mix of people who are a little bit older than 18!

Because more middle class youngsters have more money to blow? Because they don't have to pay for it mummy and daddy do? Where's if your parents are poorer, they are struggling just to keep you through education?

Plus on the council estates its all about chart music and that hip hop stuff :P

Just because it's pop music doesn't mean that she doesn't have the right to play...Lady GaGa had one of the biggest crowds last year and it was an amazing set...just go see someone else - there are obviously so many shitty shitty indie bands filling up stages that all sound the same and barely can make a note and play their instruments...

It's still talent even if you don't like it; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n_4SWeyAnE

and maybe it is a bit contrived and the record label have been using gimmicks...but doesn't everyone? if you want to avoid that go see a gig in your local pub instead

Pop, fun at a festival....look at Gaga, she brought in a huge crowd (you don't have to be there if you don't want to) She can sing, she can dance:

It's called Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts...not Glastonbury Festival of Rock Music Purely for snobs who refuse to acknowledge that anything else might be talent.

well a) I wrote that out in a response to all the people disliking it on the thread not just you...you were just the nearest quote i could find to reply to....

all i was saying is just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's shit and I hate how people just take pop music and pidgeonhole it because it's not all JLS and S Club 7...there is genuinely good music in every genre...and I would never disregard anything that played at Glastonbury just because it's the type of music I wouldn't listen to

sorry that it came out as a rant I'm very hungover lol

    • What is too old for Leeds Fest now ?  I'm going to the Fontaines Saturday in a few weeks at 54 !!!  I may be the oldest there 🙂    Wythenshawe may be an option for WA.
    • Pretty much all festivals lose out on major artists because of production limitations though. Glastonbury is no different to most other festivals.  Lots of acts can/will adapt their tour production to suit festival stages if they want to play them, but some acts with stage designs and routines just don't want to adapt, and would rather just stick with a rigid, well-rehearsed production and take the money for their own gigs, whether that's a lot more than playing Glastonbury, or slightly less than playing some other festivals (but with added complications). Trying to adapt the stage, layout, access to b-stages etc to accommodate a single headliner on a Friday and then having to change it all around for a Saturday headliner isn't really a goer when most headliners can just easily adapt their show to stay on a main stage, if they're so inclined. They have a year to figure out how to perform a song on a main stage and ditch a few dance routines out on a b-stage if they really put their mind to it. It's not that difficult......
    • I would be all over Wolf Alice but may have outgrown this venue.    Also have to consider the schedule they have been on this year so may be on a break.  This last 10 days alone they did Tramlines, New York, Chicago and Kendal Calling.  Although make hay while the sun shines may come into play.
