Mmm, maybe. I'd go for anything in double figures makes you a veteran. 10 or more seems enough to count yourself as a veteran. Just my opinion thou.

I'd struggle to remember all mine but most be not far off 5co77ies due to working at festivals for 17 years and also last 4 years going to 10 or so a year

I could go with that BenchBuddah. I count bar the bit for 'more than 1 a year'. In the early 00's I sometimes did only 1 (TITP), simply because of money and I wasn't as confident then to go myself to other festivals on my own if my mates didn't fancy it.

Nowadays it's different. I'll happily going on my own and average around 4 a year. Thou to be fair I'm rarely on my own now, between efests and people I know I'm rarely alone realy.

I've been going since 1981 when I was (about) 16, I I'm 45 now and I still going. But let me say this,it's not about how many times you've been or who you've seen. It is all about what you bring to the festival. That is all that matters. Walk in with an open mind a and a happy disposition and all will be well in the world.... Whooohhhh Alleluia!

But that's where the military metaphor should stop - as in a war scenario, if you lined up to fight alongside him and he told you how many he'd been to, you'd run a mile thinking he was some sort of curse!

My first festival was Reading in... I think 1987. Fields of the Nephilim were playing, my only reason for going. 2 stages in one end of the field, and that was it!! I have been going since, and I dread to think how many I have been to. I have worked at some too. I have 3 paid for for next year as well.

This year I saw FoTN again, met them, and was sat on stage with them. Long story... But it brought back memories of my first ever festie.

I'd say if you've been to more than 5 festivals then you're more a veteran than a novice. I've been to 8 so that sounds about right

I've been to V once and Glasto twice (3 times as of '10).

Wouldn't really consider myself a Festival veteren until I'd been to at least one more different Festival, like Leeds or Isle of White.

I aim to become a Glasto veteren.

I know someone who has been to Leeds for the past 6 or so years, I'd consider him to be a Leeds veteren.

It's all subjective I guess.

God I feel old.....

I have (nearly) decided that i will "retire" from glastonbury in 2010.

The festival is 40 years old (something I left behind 3 years ago now) and in GlastoYears, I'll be ....gulp....15....in 2010 so I suppose that makes me a veteran.

Since going to Cambridge in the last Year Off - 2006, I often think a year of several smaller folk festivals is on the cards - time constraints don't allow more than about 3 festivals a year, so I keep thinking I'll step down ....... also went to the truly excellent Shrewsbury Festival last year, as well as Cambridge and glasto, ........and if it wasn't for the fact that Glasto has its own little "acoustica" world (wander from Acoustic /avalon/cruessant/jazz stages, and its basically a folk festival - but with other bigger scale options a few hundred yards away)

Had pretty much decided this last year, but then the fallow year was deffered till 2012, so maybe I'll get to 16 years.....

Before you have have sex for the first time you're a virgin. After the first time you're no longer a virgin but you don't instantly become a veteren.

I like the idea of a quiz to assess veterenship. It could include anything from how many types of toilets you have used at Glasto to how many tents you've had. You could include basic knowledge like where would you find the Brother's Bar, the Cider Bus or a Square Pie stall. Maybe you also have to have watched music in a range of locations. I'm not sure if anyone who has never strayed from the Pyramid Stage could ever be considered a veteren.

My first fests - Bath Blues 68, Shepton Mallett 69 and Glasto since. I think that gets me a long service medal.
