James to play Glasto?

I really hope so - they are unquestionably one of the greatest live bands of all time. Watching them play straight after England had beaten Columbia in the 1998 world cup is one of my best live music memories of all time. When Tim walked out and announced that they had prepared 2 sets, one for if we won and one for if we lost and that the winning set-list was greatest hits everything in the field felt magical. My only disappointment was that I'll bet the "Losing" setlist was bloody amazing as well!!!

James MUST play - they deserve to and belong there.

No, I'm not but you are clearly either a) someone who has never seen them live or :P soulless. Even in their "reformed" guise their gigs have been AMAZING!!! There is no band who seem to connect so fluently with their own music and the mere thought os "Sound" reverberating across Glastonbury's fields once more sends shivers down my spine. Your pedantry has merely served to impress your ignorance upon all those unfortunate enough to read it. I will, however, re-phrase my statement to satisfy you.

James are unquestionably one of the greatest live acts ever, according to anyone who has ever seen them or, indeed, anyone with a soul.

Happy?

Not particularly. You need to chill the f**k out there jimmy boy. I'd like to think i have a soul, and more importantly I have seen James on a couple of occasions. They were OK but not amazing so I was meerly questioning what you claimed to be unquestionable and you've had a little shit fit over it. Lets hug and make up otherwise i might start to think all James fans are souless bastards :P

Saw them at V 3 months ago and they were A M A Z I N G!!!!!!!!!!

V fest seems to have a extra-special liking for James - I know that V having James on the bill most years has limited the opportunities for James to play at other fests, because V has had them on an exclusive (or semi-exclusive) basis.

They are always a decent gig at T in the Park and normally play around easrly evening.

They were a great headliner at Belladrum a few years ago and tend to go for mostly the old stuff at festivals (Sir Bono please note)

Really hope James play. They're an amazing live band - I've seen a lot of bands and they're definitely one of the best I've seen. Always put on a good show. Will be trying to get tickets for 2 of their shows on next year's tour and hope Glastonbury makes it a third.

That's interesting. I didn't realise bands could be tied into such restrictions. Is this normal practice for festival organisers? I love james but don't see them as a massive catch for any festival these days. Are the so called 'bigger' bands tied up in the same way?

Any idea if james are still signed up with V Fest?

It's more the case that bands agree to be tied into such restrictions to (depending which is appropriate for a particular band) secure that booking or to get a bigger wedge.

Restrictions like these are fairly common for the bigger bands at the big commercial festivals, tho the number of bands involved and how far down the bill these things go is increasing. Those festivals do that to give their festivals a number of exclusive acts/performances to help ensure the tickets sell.

Bands get signed up to these restrictions (if the promoter wants them to have such restrictions) when they get signed up for that festival.

So James wouldn't be tied up with anything like this unless they've already signed to play V Fest, and only then if the promoter wanted to restrict what they did. However, given that V fest seems to have such a strong liking for them, it's quite possible that they are already signed up and have accepted restrictions with that.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
