Admittedly, it's probably a complete long shot. But wouldn't it be absolutely amazing if it did happen?

Given Bowies health it'd likely be one of his last ever shows. I can see the attraction of wanting to go out in style - and Saturday Night on the Pyramid Stage would be pretty much unparalleled in that respect.

According to Bowie's PR firm, it is not happening. He still has no plans to play live anytime soon. He has been asked, though, so at least that part was true.

The Mail Online has posted a piece suggesting that David Bowie is "considering an offer" to appear at next year's 40th anniversary Glastonbury Festival.

Sadly, there is absolutely no substance to this story.

You know, despite what's been said recently and what's been said many times before regards any future tour or major appearances (or lack thereof anytime soon), I've got this strange kinda feeling that something could just happen. Defo no money on it and I certainly wont be holding me breath and all that but I wouldn't be in any way surprised if he did show up at some point in time over the weekend as a v.special guest if nothing else The official line of there being "no substance to the 'Bowie is considering an offer'" comment could well be completely true of course, technically, but it just might actually mean that he has already considered it and has potentially even accepted !! Yeah, I know, it's a very very short straw that I'm looking to clutch at here and with a near-zero probability of finding it but I'm defo not losing all hope just yet.

I've long since crossed Floyd of my ultimate wish list as it just can't ever sensibly happen now unfortunately but there is absolutely no way that I'm even prepared to vaguely consider crossing Bowie off just yet

I would love for this to happen! Would Bowie ever play before the Stones? Now that would be amazing!

About an hour ago the Daily Mail published a news story claiming that Bowie has been asked to come out of retirement to play.

The article, tracked by Google, is not currently available on their website.

In itself - him being asked - would not surprising at all.

Interesting that the article has been pulled though. Quite a few possible reasons, some very mundane of course.

Wonder if he's still in the frame, in spite of everything?

Since I got my ticket sorted, I've really been hoping for Radiohead and Bowie as two of the headliners. Definitely two of the best live acts I've seen and two perfectly suited for the huge specatacle of headlining the pyramid. Old Dave seems like a mellow guy these days, maybe we can plea by way of a petition?

edit - Also, it's funny how the Daily Mail article bothers to say "Afterwards, event founder Michael Eavis labelled it the best Glastonbury ever." He says that every year!

I've got a feeling he'll be there, but if he is he'll be a guest for one song, possibly with U2 which I'd probably miss anyway even if I was going.

I'll just have to watch it on TV I guess.
