They're playing in Italy around the time of Download, so I wouldn't rule them out of playing there. I think the reason they're not rumoured for Download is that they're rumoured every year and people have just got bored of it!

With Green Day and Muse out of the running (seemiingly), I wouldn't put it past R/L fighting tooth and nail to book them, but it all depends on whether they're willing to play festivals rather than their own shows (Hyde park or MK Bowl would be an option I'd imagine) which, historicly, they haven't been.

I could see it,they really need a big "rock" headliner next year and IMO someone like My Chemical Romance won't do. Especially as the way it's looking the Glastonbury line-up is going to be huge next year.

From what I've read, timing will be a big issue.

They're meant to be doing about 6 weeks of european festivals starting early June, which only takes them up to mid/late July.

However, money talks, and if the organisers were allegedly prepared to chuck £2M at second-rate indie shite like The Libertines, they may be prepared to offer alot more to AC/DC, especially as it seems it could be the festival's one and only chance of bagging them.

Where did you hear that? It's a good download lineup compared to most years, not as good as last year but I'd love to see Pearl Jam again.

If Acdc, Blink and Kasabian healdined Leeds that would be cool, I would rather The Strokes than Kasabian - then it would be perfect.

I reckon if AC/DC do any UK festivals it'll be Download, especially as they're promoting next years festival as the 30th Anniversary of rock at Donington. Seeing as V are seemingly going down the party in the park/T4 at the beach route & Download and Sonisphere are catering to the rock fans, R&L have got the monopoly on the indie/trendy market, hence why they're willing to throw £2m at w*nk like The Libertines & have Bloc Party play 2nd from top every year.

  • 2 weeks later...

All the rumblings I've heard point towards them playing Download.

On a different note, I have a feeling Reading might book Kiss as Sunday headliners. I know it sounds mental, but they would command a headlining slot due to the size of their live show, they're playing rock am ring and other European fests, but played download too recently and don't look like playing Soni, there arena tour dates are early may so it's feasible for them to return at the end of the summer, they're still relevant because they are still heavily referenced in pop culture (family guy, role models, rock band/guitar hero to name a few), and they've recently released an album.

I'm not even a fan of their music, but they're worth seeing live. Slipknot are supposed to be around next summer too, but Soni don't seem to have them booked (I could be wrong). I think they could well play under Kiss.

I suppose it depends on whether any of "the sort of bands that headline Reading" are around. Also, in fairness one of the most famous rock bands in the world with a new album to promote and penchant for theatrics sound exactly like the sort of band that could be headlining Reading

I'm thinking in terms of advertising and apealing to the sponsers (Radio 1/NME for starters) Kiss are not a band that fit in with Reading and Leeds cool young image. Older Bands like AC/DC and Iron Maiden do fit into the image but Kiss are considered a bit of a joke by the industry and their glory days are way behind them.

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
