Will U2 play their classics or their new stuff?

U2 nearly always play their classics - what band doesn't at least play some new stuff but their setlist if anything is geared towards the older stuff. I don't get why this question keeps being asked and people assuming they have such a big ego they'll only play their new stuff. For the record, in Cardiff this year they played:

Unforgettable Fire

I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

Stay (Faraway, So Close)

Sunday Bloody Sunday

Pride

Where the Streets Have No Name

One

Bad

Mysterious Ways

With or Without You

Ultraviolet

Are people really going to complain if they play these. Of the newer stuff I think City of Blinding Lights and Walk On could easily be added to that list. Not all the new stuff is bad. U2 will put on an amazing show.

I'm certain that they think their latest album is fantastic and that it will appeal to the crowd, hardcore U2 fans or not.

What band puts a new album out and thinks it is inferior?

I desperately wish they would only play the old stuff but if they did that is them admitting their new stuff is crap. And of course they are not going to do that.

...I'm intrigued as to which "classics" people think Springsteen didn't play last year...He didn't play Born in the USA but a lot of the set was very well known....just wondering what he missed out (hungry heart? streets of philadelphia?...I'm on fire?)...Really most of what he played was his best known stuff. Basically, if he'd played Born in the USA I think many people would have walked away thinking he'd played everything!

I guess they will do their current set-list, Its changing gig by gig, but not too much variation a la bruce.

Cardiff Gig this year was great and they did 'bad/40' which doesn't get many outings

Since Next year is not only the 40th anniversary of Glasto its the 25th anniversary almost of Live Aid (July 1985).

So perhaps they should do Sunday Bloody sunday and Bad Back to Back (with 'satellite of love' clip)

and bono falling arse over tip into the pit to dance with a stranger;

Classic.....

BTW On a fantasy live aid theme

Wouldn't it be nice if for the anniversary, the pyramid gets a manually operated (eco) rotating stage in order to fit all the bands we want to see from the last 40 years.

Each band gets 20-25 minutes unless their a headliner, and the stage rotates if they go over time (in a spinal tapesque stylee)

Perhaps on Led Zep (bar phil collins on drums) , Bryan May and Roger Taylor (perhaps with

robbie williams on vocals, if he takes that smug scowl he's been wearing lately off his face)

Spandau Ballet with no sax

Dire straights (We will let sting off)

Finally Paul McCartney with a stage hand frantically trying to get his mic to work so that its just not

the front two rows who can here 'let it be'

I have been lucky enough (or unlucky enough depending on how you look at it) to see U2 on every tour of theirs from 1984 to this current tour. And every album since 'War' to 'No line on the Horizon' (I was too young for the very early gigs for 'Boy' & 'October' :P )

From my re-collection of seeing them live more than 24 times, over 25 years, they have always played a huge chunk of their latest album and always included a good blend of previous hits.

I would love to see them perform a "Greatest Hits" type set but I wouldn't predict that'd be the case.

Likewise I wouldn't be too surprised if they play a chunk of latest album from this 360 tour, even at Glasto next year.

But even if they play 6 or 7 songs off 'No line on the Horizon' (like they've done when I saw them this summer), there is still plenty of scope for inclusion of classic hits from all their prev albums too

Worth keeping an eye on THIS WEBSITE, which keeps track of their set-lists for the 360dg Tour.

I had an avid eye on this, and printed off the set list of prev European tour just before their Wembley Stadium shows and the set-list was very accurate in what I saw for both Wembley concerts in August.

Might get a good insight in the run in to Glasto slot if that helps.
