2010 will be my 6th Glastonbury.

I always mooch around, especially on the Wednesday and Thursday.

I have yet to see the whole site.

That's how big it is.

I always laugh at first-time Glasto-goers who are attempting to meet up via phone. The following phrases are usually uttered by such folk:

"Meet you by the sound desk at the Pyramid Stage"

"We're near the 'drop the debt' bus"

"We're under the blue flag"

"I'm waving from up that hill - you MUST be able to see me"

"Look by the tree - we're sort of underneath that - almost"

"I'm right by the ice cream van"

I can guarantee that they won't meet their mates unless further instructions are given. It's big.

If we assume 180K + 30K staff/workers/help/traders/artists then that's 210K which makes us a little smaller than Derby but bigger than Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and arguably the largest population/grouping in the area apart from Bristol. We increase Somerset's population by about 23% (from approx 900k to 1.1mil)

So, in reality, large enough to have our own Council and at least 1 MP :-)

On a reported crimes per capita per day basis I think you're probably right. Oooh... lets see if we can dig up some stats :-)

I popped along to here:

http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/information/CrimeStats/

Somerset East doesn't seem to suffer any major increase in crime over the period, indeed, if they graphed the crime on a per-capita basis you'd see a huge drop during the festival.

Yep, definitely Reading. And to be fair to Reading, that is a photo of just the arena with a small bit of the camping. But still, Glasto is probably 3-4 times the size of Reading/T/Download etc. (at a guess)

    • Had a wonderful booking in one of our primary woodland venues this weekend. A 30th birthday arranged by a load of musicians and entertainment industry professionals. It was primarily a folk oriented event, however I noticed one young woman who didn’t seem to fit dress and appearance wise. Turned out to be Frenetic, one of the top up and coming UK Jungle and DnB DJ’s.    Anyway Saturday night turned into an EDM session and I got to do a set. Slightly nervous considering who was there, it was great and Frenetic loved my set. She’s closing Data Mine at Shambala this year.
    • they got lucky and the thunderstorms stayed away. It was still wet of course. Some of those boot sucking puddles did emerge from what a couple friends saw who were there.  Post fest aerial also below   and also a sapphic mud wrestling contest?
    • It's even less funny when in real life too...   Liddle met Rachel Royce and the couple soon became romantically involved.[84] In January 2004 the couple married at a ceremony in Malaysia. They had been living in Heytesbury, Wiltshire, and had two sons together. Six months later, Liddle moved in with Alicia Monckton, a 22-year-old receptionist at The Spectator. It transpired that he had cut short his honeymoon with Royce so that he could be with Monckton. Following their divorce, Liddle and Royce exchanged attacks in the media. Liddle called her a "total slut and slattern"
    • Got our purple outfits sorted.   What's the uptake on the fancy dress day?   Does everyone get involved with that one as well?
