They will have to show both matches, otherwise the chaos would be ridiculous - and Eavis doesn't like messing with the locals at the best of times let alone letting thousands of people have a mass exodus.

The Wednesday the match will be the only thing on so it will have to be on Pyramid, anywhere else would be too much crush, which Eavis doens't want. So they'll have to set up the screens a day early on the pyramid, I'm sure this can be arranged.

Eavis should assume England will get though their group, any other assumption is ridicuolous. He basically needs a band who are happy and flexible enough to be support for The Stones, or play Sunday Afternoon. My guess would be Manic Street Preachers or Kaiser Chiefs.

The Stones would be unlikely to be affetced by the match, and I personally can't think of many things better than watching England beat Australia or Germany and then watch the Stones.

This is what I'd do if I was young Mr. Eavis, but it his call - I hold no power.

I am speaking as a huge football fan who - if the 2nd game is shown - will be there to watch it. But - from a personal point of view, my priorities are 1. The festival and 2. The football.

Can you not see and appreciate that thousands of people will want to watch this? And therefore can you not see that it would have a huge implication on the festival itself? Let's forget about if it should or shouldn't be put on - many people WILL want to watch it.

If it's shown on site, they will need a huge area to show it. And schedules will have to be amended to make way for it.

If it's not shown on site, the organisers will have to be prepared for a mass exodus of people, something that will be difficult to police and something that will annoy the locals. (And for the record, if they DON'T show it, I'll live with that and stay on site. I'm not leaving those gates no matter what, even though I would like to see the game. I'll have an awesome Saturday no matter what happens!).

Can you appreciate that the timing of the 2nd game (if England are involved) is going to be extremely problematic for punters and organisers alike?

Do I actually think a huge reshuffle could happen? I don't know - but no matter what happens, it is going to disrupt things, like it or not.

Although the game was shown on the Pyramid screen in 2004 that was a Thursday. I'd be totally shocked if the same happened on a Friday this year. Music has to take priority. It'll be shown at the meeting point i'd imagine/highlights in between bands maybe.

I would say that anyone going to Glasto has no right to expect the games to be shown. The festival isnt there to show the world cup, and if its that big a deal to see the football you should genuinely consider not going or altering your own plans accordingly. But at the same time I think the Eavises and the majority of glasto-goers recognise that, like it or not, the world cup is a massive deal for many many people, and not showing the games could cause massive logistical nightmares. Its not an unreasonable viewpoint to want to enjoy glasto to the full, but also watch a huge football match.

My take on what will/should/could happen, based on the various other times this has been an issue (1998, 2002, 2004):

Wednesday game - will be shown on Pyramid screens. As the England-Portugal game was in 2004. This game might end up not being too important, but if it is crucial then not showing it would result in traffic chaos later in the day or Thursday. It would mean that more people than ever arrive early, to be set up in time to watch it, but having the car parks open early should make this fairly easy.

Saturday/Sunday game - I reckon that the scheduling of the bands will allow the second half of this game to be shown either on the pyramid or other stage, whilst the next band is being set up. Could be an issue if it goes to extra time or penalties though. This happened in 1998, where James (2nd headliners that night) played a slightly shortened set to allow the football to be shown.

I also think Williams Green will show some of the other non-England games. Back in 1998 there was a screen in the old cinema field which showed all the games. Unless they revert that field back from being crew camping that wont happen again (and i dont think they will). Can't think of anywhere else on the site they could do this, possibly along from the "lounging area" where the camping is never full, but logistically that part of site isnt set up for the large numbers of people a football match would attract.

If it ends up that the game is say v Germany on the Sunday night, it could well be that a lot of people leave early to go home and watch it.

I think that many negative aspects are almost certain to occur no matter what is decided due to the scheduling of the 2nd game. But I think showing the Wednesday game would be a good thing. People coming together to watch a game, having a laugh, creating a great atmosphere is not a bad thing.

You make some fair points here - the Wednesday game shouldn't be a problem - acts aren't on yet etc. But Saturday - if indeed we play on the Saturday - is a problem.

However, I would like to take you up on this point:

If you'd like to sit with myself and my friends during the first game (as I expect that at the very least will be shown) then you'd be most welcome to, after which I would hope you'd apologise to me and them for brandishing us as 'morons'. Of course, there are plenty of them around, and football does indeed bring about the worst in a lot of people. But are you not aware that there are people out there (such as myself) who are able to enjoy the game with friends around us in a civilised, non-moronic and well-mannered way? You're stepping very close to labelling us as violent racists which is bang out of order mate.

I respect the majority of your posts on this forum Russy - and think you've a mighty fine taste in music (Kloot for Glasto 2010!). However, you ranting insults at people who intend to enjoy the football (if it's shown) is quite tiresome. Please stop tarring all football fans with the same brush.

I think this is pretty much As for the chanting you mention - I 100% agree with you there. I hate all that bullshit but would hope any such 'behaviour' would be limited to a small minority. I like to think that Glastonbury attracts a better quality of person overall (though I'm sure some twats are still there). It wouldn't be like watching a game down the local park or anything. Still - not a nice thought.
