If I remember correctly, in 2004 they showed the Portugal game at the cinema field as well as the Pyramid Stage. We walked through the cinema field and it was busy, but the Pyramid Field was as busy as it gets for one of the major acts. And we got there quite early. It was rammed.

I watched the Portugal game in 2004 of what I can remember..... It was the most drunk I have been at Glastonbury and it was my first fest there. I stumbled off and tried to get into someone elses tent thinking it was mine, waking up in the morning in my chair where i'd slept all night only to get glares from a couple on the other side of the hedge where my tent was. I did apologise but I don't think they were too impressed......

They have to play the matches, i'd skip a band to watch a last 16 game, would save Eavis some money and put to a bigger act after the match!!

What time would the game on Sat night finish if it went to Extra time and penalties? Would they just ask the 2nd top or the headline band to cut loads of songs from their set? Or would they just cancel bands later in the day and have a huge gap between an early evening act and the headliners just incase the game ran on?

ETA: Also, not everyone likes football so its a bit unfair to cut down on their entertainment- and remember they paid money to see popular bands/ artists on the mainstage- not football

this is where it falls down, you see, I can't imagine that they'd just decide not to put a headliner on Saturday night because of the football

I really want to know what's going to happen, it's intriguing me.

World Cup at Glastonbury: England play Wednesday, with Saturday or Sunday in the frame.

England's final group game of the 2010 World Cup will be at 15:00 on Wednesday.

In the 2004 world cup, an early evening game - on the Thursday - was shown on the festival's main stage. With the 2010 game being a day earlier, organisers will need to have main stage screens running earlier is usual if the game is to be shown on the Pyramid.

If England qualify in their group, they will then play a game during the main festival schedule. Their next game would be at 15:00 on Sunday as runners up, and as winners the game would be at 19:30 on Saturday.

It is unlikely that any of the existing main stages will be cleared to show football during the main part of the festival. Festival-going England fans will be hoping that the organisers will consider using temporary video screens in another area of the site.

In the meantime, online forums will be flooded with the same question that everyone was asking in 2004: "Will they be showing the football"?

I doubt that mate.

Think about it this way - there are 2 choices:

1. Stay at home to watch the game with a few mates unable to drink as I'll be driving to Glasto later

2. Drive down early, get the campsite set up, start on the beers ASAP and watch the game with 100,000 others in the best place on earth.

No brainer.

Especially for those travelling long distances - the game won't finish til 5.

I intend to set off super-early so I'm already set-up, fed, relaxed and slighty tipsy by the time we kick off.

With any luck the Wednesday kick-off might just put a few people off travelling down early, as they won't want to risk missing the game. If I was Eavis I wouldn't publicise the fact that the game was on for that exact reason, it could slow the goldrush on Wednesday morning.

hmm, they tried that in 2002 and it didn't go down well with the masses! In the end they caved in to people's demands to be told one way or the other (for many it HAD to be shown!) and they issued assurances it would be. The game involved there though was a quarter final on the friday so understandable for people to get quite demanding but there would still be a clamour to know about the wednesday game. I guess they could justifiably announce that the wednesday game definitely won't be shown and IF england make the last 16 it will be.

Exactly pa, this is what I'm worried about. Extra time and pens can add another hour to the game. This is how I can't see the weekend game on the Pyramid. Would anyone realy fancy watching a football game over seeing, say The Rolling Stones?

Put it on elsewhere. The Strokes on the Other Stage, The Stones on the Pyramid, and the England game at the Bandstand, evenly spaced out crowd, and everyones happy. :P
