saw them donkey years ago in old wembly stadium and even with thier early good stuff and being pissed was quite honestly un entertained

and bono carping on about 3rd world debts an then charging upwards of £80 per ticket seems a bit hypocritical

They were but not anymore. They're a bit "brand U2" now. Saw them twice this summer and both times Bono thanked Blackberry for helping them with the tour and also thanked some other big company who I cant remember. Took the shine off the gig in a big way. U2 have been corporately absorbed now and have lost any snarl they had, both in their attitude and they're music.

Id still see them in Glasto, no doubt, but after the Pop album, they’re afraid or incapable of producing anything groundbreaking or new.

Not really. I couldn’t give two f**ks who sponsored the gig, why mention Blackberry and time Warner or whoever it was? No need. Not very rock and roll is it?

And the Aung San Suu Kyi mask thing was way OTT. Just play the f**king songs!! If the gig was in Burma that fair enough, but "Niall" from Finglas in Dublin couldnt give a toss and paid to see a rock and roll show.

the mask thing was a pain in the arse but thats because its a cause they believe in, not any sort of sponsorship nonsense! Theres always a political element at U2's shows but I thought it was minimal on the '360' tour shows i seen, 'Vertigo' was worse !

They still deliver a great rock show whichever way you look at it IMO!

Sorry to say i am not in the least bit bothered about U2 playing at Glasto i cannot stand the lead singer and the band well each to there own really

Quite a lot of my best memories haven't even been Pyramid Stage. I'll hunt down Biggles Wartime Band because I've never encountered them playing anywhere but Glasto. Most of the 'big names' you can catch on tour at other places.

The problem is that Glasto is different and not all the big bands have successfully adapted their tour shows to fit a Pyramid Performance.

It might be fun to offer some Pyramid Slots in the 40th to people who don't usually get offered that deal but who could rise to the occasion. An example would be Glenn Tilbrook and The Fluffers, who used to do Left Field.

At the time of me posting this it only lists upcoming dates til October this year and no mention of June 2010.

I would still live in hope of U2 headlining Glasto some year, even if not 2010.

Like 'em or loathe them, U2 are defo a legend band that Eavis would have approached at some point or other. I'd beat my U2 back catalogue that M.E. would like Bono & the boys to do Glasto

I disagree with that slightly, Blur were amazing, Bruce was a bit toss but I also thought NY was out of this world. I must admit to being a big NY fan, I'd never seen him before and had no idea what to expect but I was totally blown away. Even my wife who is not a fan in the slightest thought he was the best gig we've ever seen.

If U2 played though I'd be off somewhere else, really couldn't care less. My sister went to 2 of their gigs over the summer, Sheffield and Wembley, she had a spare ticket for the Sheffield one that she was willing to give me for free but I honestly prefered to sit at home and watch telly than go and see them. She is a huge U2 fan and has seen them loads and she admitted to being a bit disapponted with them. Particulaly as she said both gigs were EXACTLY the same, same set list, order of songs even where Bono moved around the stage was exactly the same. She also paid £80 to sit in the gods, total rip off (these were supposed to be fan club tickets as well).

Now if I go to a gig especially if pay £80 to sit at the back I want to see a gig, not a rehersed performance. I want bands to go out and enjoy playing and do the show they want, not the show they've rehersed on a sound stage. IMHO doing the same show every night smacks of a lazy band who don't give a shit about the people who pay to go and are touring for the money, not because they love playing.

The lack of video of Damon crying online or a number of the best performances of the night leave me with the suspicion that there could be some bonus film on the Hyde Park DVD. Though if I was the production company behind the Hyde Park dvd I would seriously consider ditching the whole thing and just putting out GF2009. How can that flat field with tiny stage compete with the Pyramid in pitch darkness? V. odd decision indeed. Home town loyalty to one side of course.

U2 have been the biggest band on the planet for about 25 years, when you are that huge its pretty hard not to become 'corporately absorbed' , as you put it!

I saw U2 in Boston last week and they were absolutely amazing. My friend who came with me was not a fan before, but now she is crazy about them! We are thinking of seeing them on a couple of European dates next year, but seeing them at Glasto would be fantastic.
