Can I just say how wonderful I consider it that a thread entitled "on topic please" is so gloriously tangential - we've had grammar flame wars, cheese and milk, Blunt bashing... what's next?! :(

Edit: answer... octopus blood temperatures. I must admit I didn't see that coming!!

My tu'pennies worth on English usage.

Linguistic snobbery aint too nice, but:

i h8 ppl lk u who us txt spk

Fortunately don't see too much of this on here.

I love the way threads go off topic, kind of an evolution of its own, and have been invlved in some thread hijacking and diversion. In my defence I have yet to start a thread on anything irrelevant, or indeed to start a thread.

I have not posted a picture of a cat either, but hat is more due to technical incompetence than anything else.

Also, doesn't Neil go off topic now and then? Telling Lily is the princess to go for a w@nk springs to mind.

The monorail joke might initially appear cliquey, however I read a post asking a question about it, and after reading the first two tongue in cheek answers, I understood the joke.

It works as a funny forum joke rather than alienating newbies and being a cliquey joke.

You know I blame Neil for my mental condition. I was supposed to be in a psychotherapy group to deal with my confidence and relationship issues, but instead I stayed here and post whored on the internet. ;)

There are a few truths in there somewhere, but I will let you lot worry about that :P

Bloody cats ;)

i agree about h8ting txt speek. not conducive to a pleasant reading experience imho; i think people on here are a bit more grown-up than kids who have had mobiles all their lives. i got my first mobile when i was 19 and it didn't have the ability to text... and our dad would wake us up an hour before we went to bed in a box on the M1 and give us our breakfast of gravel and rainwater and send us to work for 35 hours a day... tell kids these days that and they won't believe you!

...bizzarely, the only person who ever texts me in text speak is my mother! (and she's in her 60's)...I'm not quite sure where she picked it up from, as nobody else in the family would ever use it...I find it quite amusing sometimes trying to figure out what exactly she's trying to say....I often have to ring just to get the text translated. :P
