Well - today I finally joined Twitter. Mainly because I noticed (via someone telling me) that Craig Potter - Elbow's producer and keyboard player who's been recording I Am Kloot's new album - put something on there about it being finished. I Am Kloot's website is shite and never updated so thought it might be the best place to get some info.

And with all the Glastonbury rumours going around, I thought I might be able to get some rumours hot off the press.

But it's absolute shite. I'm going to stick with it for a bit before simply forgetting about it, but dear god - what a lazy piece of w**kery it really is.

Twitter is what it is, and it's quite good at being that. They call it "microblogging". You broadcast something you want to communicate, and anyone can read it. Simple as that, and it works.

You have to:

- understand that anyone can read what you post, and you WILL get followed by randoms (many of them probably robots. Who cares?)

- understand that nobody's forcing you to follow anyone

- understand that it's your choice whether to follow celebrities, or just friends

It's best when you have a critical mass of friends also using it. Basically if any of about 20 mates finds something cool on the net, they tweet it, I see it. I might re-tweet it for my friends. If people like it, they might comment, and it becomes a conversation.

It's best if you use a tool such as TweetDeck, instead of the web site. Makes posting easier, does notifications. With that, you can also subscribe to keyword searches. For example, lots of people include the tag '#leamlive' for any tweet regarding entertainment events in Leamington. I see those in TweetDeck.

You can set it up so that your tweets feed through into Facebook updates.

'Course it was better when it forwarded tweets to your phone for free...

one thing i hate about facebook/bebo/any social networking is when people you never got on with at school try to add you! what the f**k is that all about?

some wee bitch from my school just tried to add me on facebook, we were good friends until she totally set me up for no reason and made all of our other friends fall out me. it was a really evil thing she did and i never found out why, or got an apology.

people are weird.
