What most probably happened was they were offered an afternoon slot on the Other Stage or possibly a midday slot on the Pyramid, while these are bigger stages they chose to headline the John Peel Stage.

Yes this is a smaller, less profile stage BUT:

1. They have been playing small venues recently so perhaps they prefer the atmosphere of the smaller venue

2. They are HEADLINING the john peel stage, so maybe they see this as a better, more high profile slot than a earlier slot on one of the bigger stages.

3. They will be playing at night, which adds to the atmosphere and will allow for plenty of lights etc.

4. They will play for longer than if they had an earlier slot.

5. Because it is in the JP tent and they are up against headliners, it will be mainly proper fans watching and less casual listeners.

6. They might have another slot somewhere (although no JP headliner has played anywhere else as far as I can remember)

It was their choice, and they aren't stupid. I'm sure it will up being a good decision.

I'm finding it a little hard to get into at the moment. :P But then I always find that with a new doves album. This means when I do love it I will love it for ever, unlike those albums I love immediately but quickly tire of (yes mgmt, I'm looking at YOU!)

10.03 is the standout track so far fo'sho'

    • Brazil's first half was genuinely dreadful all round, not just the midfield, so they're absolutely not bulletproof. Whether Scotland have the quality to take advantage is a different question.   Tbf, that's as much on Morocco looking good, which I did think was a possibility. They could be a bit annoyed with themselves not to have scored more before Vini's goal tbh.
    • Surely nowadays with so much data analytics available on every division in world football and so much awareness that people aren't suckered in on the basis of a decent World Cup game... right?   Although tbf, from what I saw, Australia's game plan worked very well. But that was as much thanks to Turkey blowing varying opportunities given they created enough chances but couldn't finish, a la what happened with Switzerland against Qatar when they really could and should've won by 3/4 goals.
    • I missed Viagra Boys for a good spot for Gorillaz. Was a nice weekend and festival for me. Would definitely come back, if the line up is right. Get back home safe everyone.
    • The Last Temptation - new Heaven 17 documentary film directed by James Strong. Premiered at Sheffield Docfest this weekend.    I really enjoyed it. Affectionate, insightful, and honest. A nice mix of archival and footage, interviews and clips from the last tour. Martyn and Glenn are like an old married couple.   Plus a snippet of news from the Q&A, Martyn is recording new BEF material, and Phil Oakey has collaborated on the one of tracks. The film shows them meeting in Fagans for the first time in over 35 years.
    • Glad I’ve still got it booked off for my 50th
