Thing is, that particular lyric isn’t specifically referencing domestic abuse. It’s nice that it got adopted that way, but I think it’s harsh for people to apply their own meaning to a song then criticise the singer for not responding *exactly* how they would want him to respond to their personal interpretation. I know it comes with the territory but you can see why so many artists stop engaging with their fan base as they get bigger. On a personal level, my wife saw her Mum getting hit by her Dad before he ran off. She didn’t get upset by Fender having a picture taken with Depp in a pub.

It’s how things are now. Like me he had probably paid no attention to the court case and knows nothing of Depp beyond films he’s seen him in. But he got loads of abuse from people who weee offended and now having apologised he’s getting loads from those who think he’s a ‘coward’ and a ‘traitor.’ Probably best to get a team to keep his SM nice and anodyne or just not post anything.

Don’t know if he ever was. ‘Voice of the working class’ maybe, which is not the same thing these days
  4. Springsteen has a Circle at the front but it’s just first come first served. People queue up the day before. He doesn’t actually charge for it.
  5. Foals-Macca-PSB I reckon Not 100% on Foals, best of a bad bunch. Might watch some then make an early dart to the SE Corner
  6. Aye the second verse of that is a gut punch every time
  7. Christ on a bike, Google it. I’m sure working for the Scum leaves you with little will to live and endless self loathing but at least take 10 seconds to research your dates
  8. He did an interview last year where he talking about Glastonbury and said he’d play a lot more Oasis. He’s been round the houses long enough to know what expected.
  9. The oppression is happening because those with the tools and the power to do so are oppressing others. No point shifting blame to those that aren’t responsible, especially when they’re also at risk of being oppressed. Unfair to judge people until you’ve walked in their shoes. When MLK said that he had a decent number of Americans to aim at who weren't at any risk of speaking out and yet weren't doing so. Entirely fair game IMO. We can’t assume the same applies to the average Russian person under Putins regime.

See, the only reason I’m going to see Noel is to my ears he got interesting *after* his first two albums. Had no interest until that point.
  11. If that’s the logical conclusion then yes. If you’re taking a moral and principled stand you have to be consistent, if you use circumstances to justify sometimes taking a moral and principled stand but at other times not bothering then it’s not really a moral and principled stand. It’s devalued.
  12. I don’t agree. If you’re going to cancel an act from a Country that is waging an aggressive war because they didn’t speak out against that war you have to do the same for all acts that are from Countries that are waging an aggressive war. Consistency is vital, you can’t pick and choose your wars. You’re either taking that particular stand or you’re not.
  13. Nice words in an attempt to rouse the rabble but let’s be honest the real tragedy is the oppression. Not a lack of dissent from people who may be at genuine existential risk for dissenting.
  14. They would have had to! This is true. But if we’re being consistent that’s what should have happened. None of the acts concerned started the Iraq War, none of the people attending shows by them started the Iraq War, in fact many of them supported the Government that did and will have voted for them again in 2005. Nina didn’t start the war in Ukraine, none of the people who want to watch her at Glastonbury started the war in Ukraine. But if Glastonbury Festival is to be consistent then all those acts who don’t speak or against the war should be banned.
  15. The 03-05 bills would have looked very thin if every American and British act that didn’t explicitly speak out against the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq got dropped.
  16. He’s got some fantastic lyrics that resonate with me even in my 40s so can only guess how they connect with the Young’uns he’s writing about. If I was under-30 I would absolutely adore Fender.
  17. What’s it like there on the Thursday? I imagine it’s totally rammed due to having less options elsewhere but I really fancied seeing Leeon on Iicon

Really looking forward to kicking off the 60th Anniversary Glastonbury festival with Baggy Mondays at 10.00 on the Wednesday morning

I enjoyed that, especially the last 15 minutes. But it was more down to the volley of world class tunes she’s got in the locker (Never Mind being severely underrated IMO) than the actual performance if you see what I mean.
  20. He did but only because he was late on and had to cut his set short
  21. Absolute madness. Easily 20 acts I’d see there all on one day.
  22. Fender vs St Vincent Confidence Man v Crowded House Supergrass/Sigrid/Plant and Krauss/TLC
  23. That Friday is amazing as long as I can master being in 4 places at once by then
  24. Glasgow was superb. I assume a few tracks will get dropped from that setlist which will make it actually even more likely to slay the Other Stage. They had everybody at a nearly full Hydro up and dancing by the end.
