    Noel Gallager

I wouldn’t put him down as a TBC but I’ll be amazed if it doesn’t happen now. He was booked last time and has said he wants to do next year. As easy as it get from GFLs POV.

    First Gig Back

I’m going to the Glasgow gig tonight. Sounds good. Will try and get there early as have to show proof of my Covid infection a few weeks ago but depends on elderly babysitters.
  3. Hey up, Scooby Doos in
  4. It is censorship 100% agree. Threatening to kick people out of the festival for their views (however wrong they may be) is profoundly depressing. Maybe the festival really isn’t what it used to be.
  5. It’s always really telling when he doesn’t claim a year is the best ever. 2005, 2007, 2016 IIRC. Not sure he did in 2011 though I may be wrong with that.
  6. There’s been a few in my time that dominate things in terms of t-shirts, flags, music being played around the place, the conversation on the day etc but not many. It’s the really big ones. Stevie Wonder was one, Lionel, Kylie and actually Blur in 2009 to a degree.
  7. That’s a really good description of how it was. One of my mates was at the big G for the first time and waiting for them to come on he nearly vibrates off his axis, repeating over and over “this is one of the biggest gigs ever isn’t it? Like the whole world is watching? And we’re here, stood here, this is mental. This is just massive” etc etc Then they absolutely nailed it. I love watching it back because I think you can visibly see them buzzing off it more and more as it goes along. Normally they have the richest punters down the front and they seemed to love the crowd reaction they got at Worthy. Including Charlie who was grinning ear to ear at the end (and on occasion during).
  8. Yeah that’s true. They dominated the entire festival and then on the day it seemed like every conversation I heard was ‘so where we meeting for the Stones then? What time are we going over for the Stones?’ etc.
  9. Sad sad news. Others have said it better than me but that Saturday night, in fact the whole day, in 2013 was incredible. The hour or so before the Stones came on was the most amazing atmosphere. The Pyramid field before a big headliner has a charge and a vibration you don’t get anywhere else but it was especially pronounced that night. And then they absolutely nailed it, seemed to really enjoy themselves and that fed into the crowd. A magical night that it was a privilege to be a part of. RIP Charlie.

    Big Red Machine

    Love this. Great song.
  11. Posts like that are probably the reason this Forum is so respected.
  12. I know the use of Simpsons memes is generally of a high standard on this Forum but this is next level performance.
  13. I wonder if they’ve had issues with his various ‘people.’ He says something in that 2016 interview about how if he has been asked nobody has told him. I wonder if some big acts just have a manager that laughs at the fee, like with Springsteen had to bypass his team and went to him direct IIRC. Or maybe Elton is one of the few people Chris Martin isn’t friends with so they can’t send him in to sell it.
  14. Not into Eilish but great shout as Kendrick replacement. Macca looks good for Saturday assuming the Werchter info is good (as it usually is). Reggy or Swifty for Sunday then. Still think TS favourite, it’s hers if she wants it* I also don’t see any issue with Emily booking two female headliners. In fact I think they’d love the opportunity to do that. Never been a better time. But if Swifty isn’t available and Reginald is I also think they’ll jump at that, two oldies or not. * Not sure which I’d prefer. Bigger fan of Swifty but I’d go and see her next time she tours whereas Dwighty is absolutely plum ‘act I’d be down the front for at Glastonbury but wouldn’t pay £100 to see in an Arena.’
  15. Yeah very fair point. I shouldn’t have included 2014. Especially as it doesn’t seem all that remarkable now that Metallica played, but it was v.controversial at the time. And I wasn’t intending to be blasé about band members ethnicity, I just meant they’re seen by many as a white Guitar band. You’re dead right.
  16. No we don’t, of course. It would be huge if they did though, whatever the lack of variety.
  17. Agreed. The Eavis have spoken about this in the past. Ideally they would have a diverse top 3. Ideally they would get everyone they wanted when they wanted but for many very good reasons it doesn’t work look like that. Michael specifically spoke about Young and Springsteen in 2009, saying words to the effect that ‘they were both keen to do it, this was our chance, why would we not do it?’ The same presumably applied with 2014s three white bands and again in 2017. If they have two headliner slots available in 2022 and Elton John and Paul McCartney both say yes to what the big G offers, they will book both of them. No question.
