It's been a while since the first band announcement for EOTR 2012, so in lieu of the next one, I thought some wishful thinking and idle conjecture would be a good thing. Four important questions, to which I've provided my own answers. Who would you choose?
Top wishes to fill the remaining two headline slots on the Woods Stage (keep them realistic but hopeful, i.e. not Neil Young)
For me: The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket
An "Alternative pop" act to follow in the footsteps of Lykke Li
Peter, Bjorn and John or Belle and Sebastian
Indie/Blues/Psych Rock headliners for the Big Top
The Black Keys or Black Lips. Or failing that anyone else with Black in the name, but not Black Mountain or The Black Angels, we've had them, good though they were
A new band to get there at all costs
Of Monsters And Men

Some good calls guys. I can see them offering something new while also fitting with the EOTR atmosphere. The Shins have a new album out this year. It would be fantastic to see them appear.
For another band with Black in the title, as "Big Top Psychedelic Dirgy Indie Headliner" (in the most positive way), what about Black Rebel Motorcycle Club? .....Blaaaaaaack! (Fast Show fans rejoice)

Great Lake Swimmers (top new album in April), Sufjan (I know!!), Bonnie Prince Billy if Sufjan can't make it.
An "Alternative pop" act to follow in the footsteps of Lykke Li
Peter, Bjorn and John or Belle and Sebastian
Harlowe and the Great North Woods, Be-Good tanyas, bring back Iron and Wine too
Indie/Blues/Psych Rock headliners for the Big Top
Lambchop (lovely new album in Feb), Gillian Welch,
A new band to get there at all costs
Not a new band but we need Woodpigeon back at all costs. The world loves Mark Hamilton and Mark Hamilton loves the world, I think. (there's a very special digital ep from Woodpigeon released on Mon 23 Jan)

Very happy with the shouts for The Shins, although not sure whether the Sony backed Mr Mercer is a bit commercially minded for EOTR or if they are more Garden Stage? If not, then Leonard Cohen might do.
Anyhow, one of them if poss plus a little band called Sigur Ros who are supposed to be back in studio this year.
An "Alternative pop" act to follow in the footsteps of Lykke Li
Not quite Ms Li, but lots of fun: I'd choose Yeasayer (new album overdue). Could however easily see SSVIIB doing it, given new album this year and their Bella Union label
Indie/Blues/Psych Rock headliners for the Big Top
War on Drugs, or ideally Menomena (although they are a sure fire thing for the Garden Stage really)
A new band to get there at all costs
Youth Lagoon
Also, can I add another category?
The Scots band
Following on from Meursault, Admiral Fallow and others, can we have The Twilight Sad or Frightened Rabbit (or both) please?

Would be more than happy with the aforementioned Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens or Sigur Ros
For the alternative 'Joanna Newsom' slot I reckon Animal Collective could be good.
Would love to see Deerhunter for an early evening set.

Little Dragon, Blonde Redhead, M83 or Fever Ray

Sorry, I'm too lazy to sort these into the 4 headings, but any of the following would be most welcome:
Akron Family
Gregory Alan Isakov
Liam Finn
Ay Ducane
Monument Valley
Marcus Foster
Fanfarlo
Bony King of Nowhere
Daughter
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
Neil Young (yeah ok I'm being optimistic)
Singing Adams
Cass McCombs
Damien Jurado
Dignan Porch
The Minders (please please please!)
Delta Spirit
Radical Face (or any of Ben Cooper's projects)
Electric Owls
Owen Pallett (on his own, not as a collaboration with some orchestra)
Kings of Convenience
Vadoinmessico
Her Space Holiday
Toumani Dibate
The Black Atlantic (not Indie/Blues/Psych but it fits the Black in the name requirement)
Bon Iver (rather see him that Fleet Foxes again if we're talking something slightly more mainstream for a headliner)
John Vanderslice
Josh Ritter
Dr Dog
Mark Kozelek
Jason Lytle
Portugal. The Man
Seawolf
The Boy Least Likely To
Mary Lou Lord
Withered Hand
Lots of new albums due from the list above, so quite a few will be touring I guess, and yeah I wouldn’t be adverse to Gaslight Anthem either - I’m not a huge fan but I’ve seen them before and they do give it their all live.

I have to echo a lot of this. Bonnie Prince would be amazing though not sure he plays festivals that often? Jurado is playing Green Man and not sure he's ever played EoTR so would be a very welcome addition as would any of Atlas Sound, Destroyer, St Vincent, David Pajo... Battles could be great Bit Top headliners on one night, with Caribou returning as someone else mentioned (they are playing Bestival so are in this neck of the woods!) to headline the other night?
Headliners, Banana Co's suggestions of The Shins and Bon Iver would be pretty good with me, Sufjan would be amazing but pretty unlikely I feel. I guess we're looking at one Bella Union headliner (seems like it would have to be Fleet Foxes or EitS) plus one other...
I'm praying I can go, will hopefully be starting my first teaching job in September but hoping to still be able to go, even if I have to head off before Sunday headliners...

if Howe Gelb could be slotted in at either EOTR or NDH I would be most happy ..

Lots of strange suggestions in this thread! The Black Keys are massive now and are more likely to be second headliner at Reading rather than headlining the second stage at EotR Also someone suggesting Belle and Sebastian but not as headliners - it's not going to happen! Also whoever called for Animal Collective obviously didn't see their terrible headlining set at Green Man a few years back.
Top wishes to fill the remaining two headline slots on the Woods Stage (keep them realistic but hopeful, i.e. not Neil Young)
Being realistic: Spiritualized and The Shins
An "Alternative pop" act to follow in the footsteps of Lykke Li
Deerhunter
Indie/Blues/Psych Rock headliners for the Big Top
Caribou Vibration Ensemble (okay, not going to happen!)
A new band to get there at all costs
Alabama Shakes

What about J Mascis?
His acoustic solo work is amazing and he's always a great show live
