The best small festival in the world has announced a little sister.

The Loopallu festival on the banks of Loch Broom (Ullapool) now in its 4th year is pleased to announce a fringe tour 'Loop the Loop' featuring one of the UK's most talked about up and coming bands of the moment, Edinburgh's Broken Records.

In the few short years since its creation Loopallu has gone from strength to strength and secured its place not only at the heart of the Scottish festival calendar, but the UK as a whole. The success of the event has not only put Ullapool on the map, but it has also had a tremendous positive economic impact on the village. With this in mind we thought it was time to offer a way of this spreading the Loopallu love a little further afield.

With the help of EventScotland we have developed Loop the Loop as a fantastic opportunity to encourage people to start their Loopallu festival experience earlier and take in some of the other beautiful areas of the Highlands.

So now your journey can start on the Monday and you can travel through the Highlands exploring some of the most stunning scenery imaginable, and round each day off by checking out the buzz band of the moment along with some great local support bands.

Loop the Loop will take in the following:

Isle of Skye on Monday 15th (Portree Community Centre)

Isle of Mull on Tuesday 16th (An Tobar)

Inverness on Wednesday 17th (Hootananny)

Stornoway on Thursday 18th (Woodlands Centre)

before finally ending up in Ullapool on Friday the 19th and Saturday 20th September.

What better way to get yourself in the mood for Loopallu 2008!

Each of the performances will be broadcast live over the internet and can be heard by visiting www.loopallu.co.uk

Good to see Athene and co getting some more gigs.. they did ask if they knew any venues they could play in a recent mailing list email

Shame I can't make them but will be at the front for the main event

bryan, any idea when the rest of the line up is released.. only 3 weeks to go

Excellent, we get to Inverness on the Wednesday! Would be silly to miss an opportunity to see a gig before heading west! Is the venue in the town centre, can anybody confirm and what's a good place to stay? Travelodges, etc.?

Really looking forward to this now, and I booked the Royal Hotel, Ullapool for the Sunday night yesterday!

    • I saw somewhere they were advertising Lewis' day as him live on Glagow Green and only mentioned Amy Mcdonald and CMAT as support, 0 mention of the festival  I completely agree this will probably be the last one which is a shame because the first 2 seemed so promising and now its turned into middle of the road rubbish with acts you can see everywhere else  Anyone know if the BBC are covering it next week as it'll be fascinating to see how full (or empty) it is
    • Did anyone catch Viagra Boys last night? A rollicking good set, with a little more free jazz than I expected.   if you’re up early, Walabi is doing a super job in the Cupra Pulse. There till six.

    • They really dropped a bollock on their lineup this year. They went with Richard Ashcroft because he did well as Oasis support - But realistically, you're not getting 50k people in a field to hear the 4 or 5 songs they know at like £70+ a ticket. Can't get my head around the Kasabian booking, either. Finsbury Park was a bold move for them, and yes it sold out, but I think you're more likely to see people make the journey to London if they want to see them rather than Glasgow. A second similar capacity show was always going to be a big ask for them.
