Fabrizio Hammond Jr
Has anyone seen the NME today? They gave PJ a surprisingly fair review (at Leeds). Great comments like "tcrowd was bored becuase of the long guitar solos" and "they played for too long"... really sums up what the NME is all about. PaulJam
The NME is the most sub-standard, agenda-filled, amateur, excuse for journalism I have ever had the misfortune of coming across. The entire thing makes me sick to my stomach and anyone who appears in it is a c*nt. I cannot see what it has to do with music

Paulaviki
Go and Hail Hail were 2 of the 3 songs I REALLY wanted to hear (along with In My Tree) so I was kinda annoyed I wasn't at Leeds. But Reading got Crown of Thorns and Jeremy so f**k that! My 3 PJ gigs are now over. Enjoy it those who are going to Paris and the other euro gigs. Oh, and the Reading set in stream: http://www.pearljamonline.it/songofthemont...mbre2006/01.asf and http://www.pearljamonline.it/songofthemont...mbre2006/02.asf
thomasowen
Were Nme even there? No-one was bored, in fact everyone seemed to be having the time of there life. Just because most people weren't moshing doesn't mean they wern't enjoying it, they were merly savouring the moment. And the solos blew me away! Paulaviki
'Lets take everything good about Pearl Jam and make out that they were rubbish as we are so excellent at criticism and we weren't even there. I heard that Mcready was pretty excellent on guitar. I know, we'll bring up that 'anti-guitar solo' thing we like to use to get out of any critical analysis that may require thought. I mean, I didn't work on researching this, so I'll be damned if I'm gonna think when writing about it. Oh, and I hear that Vedder was very genuine and was articulate in speaking to and for the crowd. Lets go with the 'boring American rock band' thing, people always understand that little piece of dismissive crap. This job is sooooooooo easy. Now hand me the Kooks set please.' fowls
Only thing that's bugged me is they haven't played much of Vitalogy to Riot Act on this tour. Seen them 3 times in the past 4 months and these are the number of songs I've seen from each album: Ten - 7 out of 11 Vs - 8 out of 12 Vitalogy - 2 out of 14 No Code - 1 out of 13 Yield - 2 out of 13 Binaural - 3 out of 13 Riot Act - 2 out of 15 Lost Dogs - 4 out of 31 Pearl Jam - 10 out of 13 PJ seem to be altering the Ten, Vs and Self Titled songs but playing the same few songs from the albums in between, a lot of the time not even touching No Code, Bianural or Riot Act. Leeds did get a lot of Vitalogy, Reading seemed to get a mix of Riot Act and Lost Dogs instead. Edited August 31, 2006 by fowls
5co77ie
My review: Pearl Jam Sunday Main Stage Once upon a time I could control myself! But not at the moment, my heroes of yesteryear are about to take to the stage and for the first time ever I’m here to finally see them. The energy in the air is palpable as Eddie Wedder and the boys, looking far older than they did when I would listen to Ten every night. After the infamous Roskilde disaster where they swore they’d never play live again the band are understandably jittery. Eddie making an appeal at the start for us all to look after each other and of course there’s this lunkin’ great second barrier right in front of us to stop any crushes. Then oh my god they start to play and we are treated to track after track. From Interstellar Overdrive, Corduroy, Do The Evolution and then Animal. An early one from Vs! Everyone around me is just singing along or hugging a loved one or just stock still uttering, “I’m actually seeing Pearl Jam! I’m actually here and it’s Pearl Jam. The smell of thick black smoke from the prats behind us burning their inflatable furniture, moves us from our reverie and we move deeper into the throng to escape the acrid smoke. World Wide Suicide and Severed Hand follow from their new album and having spoken to a friend at who saw them at Leeds who said they were a bit self indulgent and I’m wondering if they’ll play anything from Ten. More from Vs with Dissident and then the moment of the festival Even Flow! I’d thought I’d never hear this live sung by Wedder after Roskilde and yet here it was! What a moment the crowd singing as one, well the older ones anyway who are gathered in large numbers. After the glorious Sad and I Am Mine I’m hoping for more old tracks and cheer like a ten year old as the first notes of Jeremy spill from the stage! After that they could play feedback and I’d be happy but instead there’s more pearls from them. Grievance, (new track) Wasted Reprise, Better Man, Save You, Blood and Rearview Mirror all are aired and the band have lost none of their majesty. They leave the stage and we call for more and after a while they come back out and deliver Soon Forget and Given To Fly. I’m expecting that to be pretty much it but then they treat us again to Once and it’s fantastic, truly it is. But if I thought that was good then they play a cover of Mother Love Bone’s Crown Of Thorns and Eddie’s voice seems much more suited to it tonight. New song Comatose has the old boys showing us how to do a punked up song. Then’ as if things couldn’t get better we get to hear Alive live. I’m thinking that’s it but Eddie comes back out clearly moved by the evening and the huge crowd who have joined them tonight. Why Go, Baba O'Riley and Yellow Ledbetter round off a wonderful evening. Eddie says he’s sorry he left it so long since they last played here and that they had no idea they had such a huge fanbase here in the UK. He’s clearly moved and so are we, fantastic! The quintet were on scorching form and it’s been one of the highlights of my life. How can Reading ever top this performance? For me I don’t think they can, it’s been one of the most magical performances I’ve witnessed and I doubt any band today could achieve the same. They were incredible and it’s a night all Pearl Jam fans will never forget – vintage indeed!

one_one
If Pearl Jam are your favourtie band then that performance is never gonna be topped, it was immense, just pure artistry, as many have said truly something special. Tho personally for me I saw other performances this year that rivalled it for me, trule this has been an amazing summer for music for me, one that would be hard to top. Next year tho with certain bands possible rerforming and some touring again, next has the potential to be just as good if not more. Thoguh for now I'm going to go watch the Pearl Jam performance again....
