Watched a bit of Jorja’s performance at BBC Big Weekend today. She played at 4pm and it was pretty disappointing… Really don’t understand booking her as Saturday’s co-headliner

This is also visible in the financial report, as there was an additional capital contribution of nearly 3.5 billion forints (~8.75 million EUR) in 2025, which, according to Sziget, “was paid in by the previous owner in line with the agreement.” As a result, based on the report, Sziget closed 2025 with positive equity of 360 million forints (~0.9 million EUR).

Earlier, Gerendai also announced that the festival’s management acquired a 70% ownership stake in the company behind Sziget, while the remaining 30% is held by subcontractors and partners of the festival (for example, Budapest Park) in small stakes of a few percent each.

The Cure knocking it out of the park once again at Primavera showed that they have fans of all ages and, even if it's felt they don't represent the direction Sziget is going in, they would've been a huge draw.

 

Ditto The XX, who I've never been a massive fan of tbh, but put me in my place at Primavera with a cracking set.

Yeah certainly missed a trick or 2. Probably down to a mixture of cost and schedule. 

 

Way out West, Oya and Solen work well as a package for a lot of bands. Which means Sziget misses out on quite a few headliners. Although on occasions they have done Sziget and the above festivals.

It feels like just the three. I thought our flight landed at 6.30pm but have since realised that it's 5.30pm so suspect we will nip over once we are in our accommodation. Hopefully make it for Morcheeba but, if not, should definitely make it in time for Faithless.

 

That said, I'm not buying tickets in advance in case flight is delayed. Which seems likely as I think every flight I've been on in the past five years has been delayed!!

There’s going to be a Táncdalfesztivál thingy which is going to be some kind of retro party from the 60’s and 70’s with Hungarian acts. Not much info about it yet, but they mentioned it at the press conference when announced the 3 others.

Yep, The Cure and The xx are the two most painful misses for me this year. The Cure literally plays at every corner, except the one I attend to.

I'm just back from Primavera. A present from my wife for my BIG birthday. She presented it to me at the airport. I was expecting a week on a beach so was very pleasantly surprised. We stayed an extra few nights in the city to make a holiday of it.

 

Despite the rain on the first night literally making it a wash out, the rest of the festival was superb. Addison Rae was great, The Cure were the best I've ever seen them, The XX were the absolute stars (along with Gorillaz) and Pinkpantheress is surely going to be massive any day now. Sadly couldn't get anywhere near for Olivia Rodrigo's surprise set.

 

Sadly, very sadly in fact, Skrillex was about as enjoyable as a trip to the dentist. We lasted 30 minutes, and half of that was us pushing our way through the crowd to leave. I'm clearly not the target audience, but normally I can find some kind of redeeming feature in any kind of music. With Skrillex it just feels like someone's told a joke and everyone's laughing except me.

I think we need to get over the booking of Skrillex as a headliner. I believe it's a wasted booking and others seem to as well, but I'm sure there's plenty of people who will buy tickets and enjoy his set. Let's not get bogged down by one bad decision - let's focus on the positives!

I totally agree. The xx and Gorillaz have been so great at Primavera Sound that I had to fly to Porto to see them once again. The Cure was a huge party at Primavera Sound. Skrillex gave me nothing... and Slowdive had a bad sound. Unfortunately, no The xx, Gorillaz, The Cure or Slowdive at Sziget... At least Nation of Language, they have been massive at Porto.

So many great shows at Primavera Sound. I wish Sziget could bring at least a couple of artists like Ethel Cain, Agriculture, Merzbow or Einstürzende Neubauten:) OK, maybe the last two would be a tough sell. But Ninajirachi, Pinkpantheress? 

 

Anyway, I digress. We cook from what we have. And last year, the set times came out on the Thursday, 19th June. So practically, it could be tomorrow.

TBF I think that the overlap is quite satisfactory (Lambrini, Dijon, Ashnikko, Fckuers, u.r.trax and, sadly, Skrillex and Peggy Gou).

 

Could Sziget have pushed a little bit harder on the names? Yeah, definetely, but certaintly not with PinkPantheress, who would be a headliner at Sziget - she'd have been at Primavera too, considering the insane crowd at Cupra.

 

Looking at PS Lineup I would have considered reasonably picks for Sziget (so excluding things clearly out of budget, artistic direction and that have already been in the previous years):
- The XX, Gorillaz for Main Stage headliners

- Viagra Boys, TV Girl, Men I Trust, Role Model, Jade, Marina for Main Stage subheadliner

- Baxter Dury for Main Stage

- Father John Misty, Sudan Archives, Touché Amoré, Ninajirachi for Revolut headliner

- Skullcrusher, NewDad, Water from your Eyes, Iglooghost, Gelli Haha for Revolut 

- Ben UFO, KI-KI, Roza Terenzi, Aurora Halal, DJ Nobu for Delta District

But yeah, I wouldn't go further than these names.

I think there is a significant mismatch in the cachet, tho - Sombre is a headliner-bet (the like of Dua Lipa back in the day), The XX is a super rumored reunion that was almost headliner at Coachella...
