Alternate reality - permanent fixture?

Watching the sets back in iPlayer and being transported right back to the dusty paths. Sparked a conversation off here…what if the festival was still going on now we’re all back home? As in, it’s actually a 365 day event, non stop, no matter whether you’re there or not…

How often would you be in the fields?

Once a year treat just to look forward to? A week every month to get a break from grim reality? Or would you honestly just switch your life and become a permanent resident?

It’s that ‘Christmas every day’ scenario isn’t it….  It sounds like heaven, but in reality all you’d do is ruin the magic of it if it was always there.
Part of the magic of that place is that this sprawling city seems to almost rise from the dirt before returning to it a week later.

Now if somehow I could sale my soul to the devil in return for a guaranteed ticket every year… Well now that is a conversation I’d have!

Keep as is.

I even love a couple years off from time to time to make absence / heart fonder etc.

Yep.

I mean I wouldn't deliberately choose to have a year off but I did have an enforced one just year due to a last minute health issue (was also in a bit of a weird place generally) and my god did I appreciate the hell out of that place this year.

One of, if not my absolute all time favourites this year and I do wonder if that year off is part of the reason why. And so having it available all the time would just dilute that effect

I thought about this years ago in terms of why my heart aches so much harder for Glastonbury when I leave than it does for anywhere else I’ve loved and hated leaving, and I think it is because it’s impossible to go back.

I mean, I felt bereft when I left Australia and a month’s holiday there, but it was still there if  it was what I really wanted to do.

I think it’s disappearance is part of what makes it.

I definitely think that if you could just ‘live there’ it would kind of wear off for most of us, (although there are a demographic who do pretty much live that life) and then, when you get bored of Glastonbury - where the hell would you go then?

I think I could definitely do a ground hog loop of it a couple of times to fully absorb it all.. but it would ruin it to be there 365 days a year.

It’s so magical, there was something special about this year, maybe because we knew the fallow year was coming up, but all our group seemed to appreciate it even more than usual.

Had a funny chat with a chap late on Sunday about how many iterations of Glasto you could do in a Groundhog Day style.

He said he’d want to do 8 million, which would be enough to become best friends with everyone on site and see every band and go to every place 😆
