Switched over to Biffy now - if it weren't for the sun I'd guess that was 3pm slot from the crowd. I reckon you either have to love them or have the beans at that time of day to show up, this is an ideal slot for people to go for a lie down/have some food before headliners / party.

Yeah, it's not translating superbly to the box. But when I watched '17 back, I felt the same too.

I'm more surprised it's a smaller crowd than LCD Soundsystem last year, is all. I understood Little Simz drawing a huge one as the build-in for Coldplay, less so LCD before Dua Lipa.

Strange how Biffy dont have a bigger crowd, it doesnt look like theres a big act anywhere else on the bill to draw away the crowds, but also ,are 1975 a big enough act to draw a huge headliner crowd?

The debate on the crowd size for The 1975 has raged long and hard. They'll pull a perfectly respectable headliner crowd.

If the crowd is young, a lot of them will have been elsewhere or taking a break I reckon, and a good chunk would see 1975

Yeah, that's a point - do Biffy pull young people as a whole anymore? TRNSMT sales have been poor, but I'd suggest they're not really a Gen Z/post-Gen Z pull these days.

Wouldn't have said so from a cursory glance. It's big, but not unreasonably so for the time of day/slot.

 

Possibly it is bigger than Busta Rhymes might have been expected to draw.

Must be. Feel a bit sorry for them, but they also are seasoned pros.

 

Said this plenty of times before - Biffy Clyro are the great "what-if" for Glastonbury for me. Decided to take a year off in 2015, at the peak of their powers as a commercial live draw following Opposites. If they'd been active, think they would have been drafted in to either take the Prince slot when he hooked over The Who, or take the Foo Fighters slot when Dave Grohl busted his leg.

 

Instead, they came back in 2016 with Ellipsis, arguably woofed it and - while a very large sub in 2017 - tapped out at that level.

 

I say this - multiple headline slots at R+L and Download since prove they're not over the hill, exactly.

 

But there was such a prime chance a decade ago to take them to the next level. It's a shame they missed it.

I have photos of Biffy gigs from 2002 where there are clothes and no tattoos.

In that weird position where they would shift academies and apollos with the snap of a finger, but arenas won't sell out unless judiciously picked.

 

Would expect The O2, Co-op Live and maybe one other. Jury out on if they'd book another Scottish show so soon with TRNSMT struggling.

On a biased level, I think they should definitely do the First Direct Arena again. Believe they sold that out the last time in 2022 - in part because there was no Manchester or Sheffield dates to eat into its sales.

 

The Halifax show - 6,000 capacity? - sold out inside five minutes or so last year.
